Oh I see. That doesn't bother me. I just wish we could have Tom Bergeron in exchange for Brucie...

In my opinion Len Goodman has become hooked on celebrity. Who knew him before Strictly? Strictly became a worldwide TV phenomonon and thus he has also a cross Atlantic "fame"; Britain and America. He also makes it into the rags in both countries, in London and LA. I don't know what his profile is in the US but here he's Uncle Len, a personality and somewhat renowned, and is featured on TV at least 4 times a week for several months of each year for the past several years. He's the dance guru, the go to guy, whose words and opinions count to a great many fans of Strictly. IMO he's not becoming unreasonably grumpy, he's become a large head upon narrow shoulders. He's rigid in his beliefs and opinions and unwilling to change because he knows he's right. Reason went out of the window a long time ago and it's beyond time he was replaced.

ever since Len's been banging on about "Its Entertainment" its fairly obvious that all the judges are briefed on what is expected from them & totally honesty is a thing of the past.

I think one major problem Len, as well as Bruno and Alesha, have is seeing the scoring as more about RANKING dancers rather than 'compensating for low marks from other judges' or 'comparing them with how they performed the previous week'. So by just using their scores from 8 upwards they really limit themselves and creat several ties between dancers. For me so far Craig is the only one really aware that his scores do rank the couples (and hence combine with the viewers' votes) and have an affect on the final results. I don't always agree with Craig's scores but I do realise is trying to differentiate the couples in the rankings (which is the whole point of judging).

Len was an underachiever in the world of dance, a minnow - and here he is telling world class professionals where their choreography is going wrong.

Len is mostly, the voice of self promotion. He sometimes thinks the show's about him. I record ITT and wizz through his contribution as it's a waste of time. Though his marking is usually fair (or "bland" if you understand what I mean) unless he thinks he's not getting enough exposure and needs to attract the attention of the viewers.

I agree its time for the old stallion to be put out to pasture, its cringworthy every time he makes a grab for Claudia on ITT, and his one word learing innuendo references to his upright posture should be edited out, kids don't need to be exposed to that sort of thing in the early evening.

I totally agree with everything in this thread. Len is an absolute walking inconsistency when it comes to the contestants.
Like others have said, I feel like he often marks on expectations, which is plain ridiculous and unfair on the better contestants. It's not fair to give someone a 9 for improving endlessly, but then giving a talented dancer the same score for a better dance, because they didn't improve on his expectations. To be fair, Craig is the only truly fair judge in this. He'll note any improvement, but still won't give a "7" worthy dance a "9" because he was pleasantly surprised by how much better it was than he expected. Oh, and also Bruno has been less annoying score-wise than in past years. He's sometimes a bit generous, especially with good dances, but in particular with the weaker dances he has been fairer than he has in the past. |

Len the voice of reason? More like the voice of the ex-bus driver who lives with his alsatian and appears irregularly to pile brown bottles outside his front door for recycling. Also known for his propensity to say inappropriate things in polite company, and even more for unleashing the Terror that in contained within Sprouts.

Wonder if this weekend if he will undermark Matt and Kara like he has done so often in the tournament. This is Len showing himself up in style. Be interesting to find out whether that happens.

He'll probably just give everyone the same score now Ann has gone and save himself the trouble of trying to work out who actually danced best.
