Why did the show make a big deal of Matt's illness but barely even mention Mary's? |

Why did the show make a big deal of Matt's illness but barely even mention Mary's?
So both Mary and Matt were ill this week and unable to rehearse. Understandbly, both were below their usual standards. So why was it presented as an excuse for Matt, but not for Mary? Any guesses?

I am a Matt fan and glad they mentioned it for him, but it's a disgrace that they didn't for Mary. It is obvious that she is not part of the chosen top four.

Miory had "It's me mudders favourite song" as her emotional excuse.

This show has always been 'one rule for one and one rule for another'
I do think they should have mentioned Mary was ill too. |

Thats an easy one.
The ideal final is the two talents Matt and rebecca, and the two teeny appeal acts they think they can make a buck off, one direction and cher. For that to happen they need mary to go. Its obvious how desperate for that they are , they have even changed things to four in the final, because one of the boys or cher wouldnt make it otherwise I suspect. Despite cher being in the bottom two previously, the way Simon was begging for votes, I actually think it was the boyband who are the ones in trouble. |

'Stop crying, Mary. You're spoiling the plan.'
They got a little bit played last night, but I don't know if it'll be enough. It does seem like One Direction needed some support to get them across the finish line (although, the hype does seem to work). Probably put in an earlier position next week, to make sure they don't actually win. |

Because they wanted sympathy for Matt and not for Mary?
Because they wanted an anti-sob story reaction to Matt and Mary to get more votes from those who knew she was also poorly? Who knows. There's so many ulterior motives that they could have. |

I was bluddy furious that Simon butted in with the 'Me, Me, Me' bit on being sick last week. Poor baby went to bed for 2 days with a bevy of carers so I heard, bet he was pampered to an inch of his little life!
Matt & Mary were both ill, you could see it on them, Matt more so, he was glazed eyed and sweating with a face the colour of putty - probably had a temperature running. No way should he have been on that stage - but he knew if he wasn't he would be gone. Mary looked tired and drained, and was definitely emotional, she was off key, but she made a valiant effort and I think deserves to get one stage further for that. I hope people both vote well for them, that must have been the week from hell for them both. |

I dont think that the judges agenda has ever been more obvious than this year.

Sad for Mary and for Harry, you could see it in him too. Think Matt's was mentioned to such a degree because as well as the tonsilitus he also apparently was still carrying a chest infection last night.
I felt for him and Mary, earlier in the series they would surely have been granted a by week each. Bless them all for performing last night though, sick or otherwise x |

Why do you think that is? They dont seem to be even making the smallest effort to hide it... surely they must see that a large number will see through it and be offended? Im new this year btw so its all a bit gobsmacking to me.

Simon and Cheryl definitely pooped themselves when Mary stated crying at the end of her song. So much so they decided they would neutralie any potential sympathy vote by informing her that it won't matter when she goes home tomorrow, she will still have record companies queuing up for her! Stop crying Mary, you utterly ungrateful woman was their line. Of course when Cher cries, their reaction is really quite different.

Matt had man flu, you know what men are like what they are ill, they think it's the plague, I like the way it showed Matt in bed and his mummy looking after her little shoulder

They did mention that Mary had been ill, they just didn't make much of it. Personally, I didn't mind a shot of Matt in bed, but I wouldn't really have wanted to see Mary in her negligee, thanks. She got the "crying jag" last night, you're only allowed one major sympathy item per show, otherwise it's too much.
Mary won't win. If she did, Michelle McManus would have her career back. They are both overly large ladies who can sing, but neither has the X-factor, and I wouldn't go to hear Mary sing if they gave me money for it. |

My personal opinion is based on an story I read in a magazine (so I dont know if it's true) but apparently Simon was raging about the money invested in people like Shayne Ward, Leon Jackson and to an extent Joe McElderry with little return. I think he wants someone he can flog like Leona and not a flash in the pan. How on earth he thinks it is Cher or Katie is beyond me. The only one he will be able to do that with is Rebecca. One Dimension and Matt (under Simon's guardianship) will become a flash in the pan one maybe two albums then disappear. I think the best result would be Rebecca wins and Matt 2nd then goes on like Will Young with discretion over what he records. That song last night was dreadful for him. (And that's not just because I'm not keen on Matt
)Matt actually looked ill last night, he had that sweaty sheen on his forehead you get with fever. |

They didn't want to draw attention to the fact that they keep pushing her under buses
![]() Poor woman had a temperature and Yvie had said she had almost passed out at the rehearsal Yvie seemed to suggest that neither Matt or Mary should have been performing -credit to them both got getting on stage and battling on regardless |

It was Dannii going on about Matt's flu/laryngitis not Matt himself - he just got on with the job.
I'm surprised he got on stage at all - he looked very ill after the 2nd song, you could see he was sweating from fever. He did well to get through it. As for Mary well we've had her crying over her daughter now her mother - I don't think she'd fare too well from any more sob stories. She sang well (apart from breaking down at the end) - he sang well, that's all that matters. The votes will tell us what matters. |

Matt had flu/laryingitis which most certainly would make you take to your bed with temperature, fever , swollen throat and you would need antibiotics and fluids. A cold just needs paracetamol and fluids. You are not really poorly with a cold, although it is miserable and a nuisance. Matt was clearly ill. Simon didn't look ill. |
