Is the standard lower than last year
Nothing will touch the standards of the 2008 series, last year was pretty low, but I think the standard this year has been even worse.
The pattern will end similar in creating another flop male winner possibly |

Why do some people think 2008 was so amazing? Is it because of Diana, Ruth, Alex, the other one plus no joke act.

Even Rebecca & Matt are not in the same league as Alexandra Burke, Leona Lewis, Will Young, although they may become so over time.

The standard is lower imo for a number of reasons:-
This lot will all have been in for previous auditions probably and not got through...there have been so many of this type of show now though that they are scraping the barrel to find new acts. The song choices have been pretty dire ---mentors are getting lazy. Outside of Rebecca ( who is more one dimensional than any one I have ever seen on this show) and Matt, nobody has a particularly good voice. The judges comments are just the same re-hashed platitudes week after week..there's no development of the contestants going on. Except maybe for Danni---ahhh Danni. Cowell and Biffa have become an obnoxious little clique and Cowell has desperately flexed his muscles to keep Biffa's acts in as long as possible with the excruciating Mr Walsh saying one thing and then doing another in line with him being Simons lap dog.----don't be surprised that if it comes down to a judges vote between Mary and Cher tonight that Louis would save Cher. The contestants have very little personality and what they do have isn't very nice---1D break this mould and have survived so far because they remind all the middle aged mums of their own kids. So its, tired, lazy and manipulative with sumbag contestants in the main (Rebecca nd 1D excepted) and conniving two faced agenda following judges---Danni excepted---ahhh Danni. |

for me they had the contestants & stage show was a lot better, but the songs have been awful, like last nights club classic I am still wiating to hear one, movie theme week, never heard of half the films the songs came off, plus the whole Cherly & Simon arse licking has ruined it for me this year,

No I don't think so, not taken overall.
Its about the same I would say. Last year at this stage we had Stacey (sings very nicely) and this year we have Rebecca (sings very nicely). Joe (very stagey voice) and this year Mary (very stagey voice - she won't win like Joe though!) Olly (cheeky chappy with a halfway decent voice) this year Matt (cheeky chappy with a halfway decent voice) and Danyl (a bit hit and miss) and OD (a bit hit and miss) No difference that I can see.

The live shows have been dire, the song choices a joke and the productions mopre like Eurovision than XF. Plus Cowell has lost it. he's had his head so far up Coles arse that it's clouded his judgement and he's gone from saying exactly what we all thought to being totally out of touch with the gbp. The rot started last year and it's continued this time |

Last year was worse than the year before obviously. BUT last year we had a decent final with Stacey, Joe and Olly. Three contestants, any one of which was a worthy winner and probably marketable (with proper management of course - which didn't happen).
This year we have the pick of a singing statue that wavers in and out of tune A LOT, Matt who is really quite boring, a cruise ship singer, a miming boy band and some stupid brat that will hopefully be out of our hair tonight. None of them (apart from matt and Mary) can sing that well, and none of them have the "X Factor" to make up for lack of singing ability or charisma. Yes, it's most deffinitely considerably worse than last year but could have been so, so much better with proper selection of contestants. Scowell has lost the plot. |

I think the fact is there is not that much undiscovered talent out there. People who have talent generally choose to make a career of it and with a bit of luck will get somewhere.
After several years trawling the nation the XF is now getting people who are previous auditionees (Treyc etc) or people who already are performers trying to break through, whether amateur or professional, which applies to Katie, Matt, Mary, Rebecca, Storm. What they are left with is kids who have some talent but are just not mature enough to cope, like Cher. Unfortunately, with the credibility of the show already not good with its "manufactured pop star" image, it is further brought down by plainly bad singers like Jedward and Wagner being allowed through to the lives. Now it seems that mediocre singers who simply want to be on XF are the bulk of the auditionees, and the show is set for a downward spiral of decline. |

Not really. The problem has been the producers deliberately going out of their way to sabotage certain acts that actually have talent to stop them getting votes so that people keep voting for the overhyped, not particularly talented "current" acts like Cher and Wand Erection. It was decided that the show was going to be "current" this year so much of the talent was not allowed to shine to ensure the script went to plan.
Mary, Aiden and TreyC all had a brilliant first week, but were never really allowed to shine again after that. |

The 'talent', and I use that term loosely, overall, is much much lower than last year. Not that there weren't a couple of talented contestants this year, but, they've gone now.
Any one of the Top 6 or so from last year, would walk the contest this year, and Joe McElderry would, no doubt, win again. ![]() Anybody, and I do mean, anybody, from the XF 2008 show, would walk away with 1st prize this year. ![]() Has Britain run out of talent? |

The overall standard is similar.
What this years show is lacking, is one person who comes out and does well every single week. Joe did that. I thought he was a bit dull, and certainly not 'popstar' material, but Joe could hit the right notes in the right order on whatever song he was given. Every single act this year has had poor performances amongst some half decent ones. |

I think it depends how you mean. It's less boring than last year because those who are bad are entertainingly bad, but there are probably more bad contestants left. If, however, you look at everybody who has been in this year, then I think the standard is probably higher than last year. It's just that many of the good singers have gone.

I think last year's series was the worse ever - especially after Rachel went out as clearl the public just didn't warm to her despite her amazing voice.
I didn't root for any of teh contestants last year. This year is so much better but not as good as 2008 and not as good as the year Shayne Ward won which also had Brenda (all time favourite) and Journey SOuth (what are tehy doing now?) and Andy the dustbin man who people adored, though he wasn't on of my faves - and Chico who was hilarious. This year I think Rebecca is amazing. I have just read an interview with her ex who says she is completely self taught and wouldn't sing for him for two years. SO she's come a really long way. I prefer that to someone like Leona who, is undeniably talented, but there were many reports that her parents spent a fortune sending her to singing school. So I prefer Rebecca any day. I also think Matt is amazing and while I don't really like her Cher is good, and Mary has something special. |

Having the judges keep in lame acts that no one likes week in week out (Katie) has to stop. It should be down to the public vote alone. I'm fed up with Simon setting the agenda based on who can give him the most publicity for the show. Its has turned the show into a joke. |

Are you kidding ? it used to be about singing , well not really since pop idol . Since then it's become a vehicle for Simon Cowel's ego . None of these contestants would last a week on US or Australian factor yet they are being told how fantastic they are and unbelievably people are buying it. Just cos Louis says thay should go a long way and Simon describes mediocre performances as incredible doesn't make it so . Simon would give Wagner a standing ovation if it suited him .The thing with this Xfactor and the last one that i've started to realise is that if you're constantly fed crap then you get used to it and it actually starts to taste palatable then you start to think the crap that has a bit of rap thrown in is slightly spicy

This is the lowest standard in XF ever and the lowest standard in any talent show I've seen. The only one that comes close is PI2.

Oh, definitely.
I'll go to say, the worst semi-final 5 we've ever had. XF1 - Steve G4 Tabby Rowetta Cassie XF2 - Shayne Andy Journey South Brenda Chico XF3 - Leona Ray Ben The MacDonald Brothers Eton Road XF4 - Leon Rhydian Same Difference Niki Hope XF5 - Alexandra JLS Eoghan Diana Ruth XF6 - Joe Olly Stacey Danyl Lloyd XF7 - One Direction Rebecca Matt Cher Mary -------- Bold are the one's I rate so for me personally, XF2 and XF5 have been the best. XF7, definitely the worst. |
