Make your own chips still?

Do do you just use frozen oven chips?

I miss home made big, fat chips, par boiled in oil at 80/100C before flash frying at max temp making them nice & crispy.

Just find deep fat fryers too messy now & so don't use ours any more.

I prefer making my own chips We have a small deep fat fryer, and an actifry - but you can do them in the oven too (even tho they aren't as good as fried chips!)

I use different chips for different meals but probably make my own more than using frozen these days.

I have a dual DFF with one side filled with dripping

I still prefer cheap frozen straightcut chips for takeaway type meals, such as with a kebab or with bolognaise or cheese and garlic sauce.

I also prefer McCain Southern Fries for some meals, usually steak & frites.

But sometimes I just want a good old proper chip and I do them myself instead of using oven chips.

Chip shop chips, genreal take away chips, then oven chips, then home made... I really don't like wedges either, poor man's chips.

Me too, they're far too much hassle. These days I make potato wedges. Preheat the oven at gasmark 6. Chop the potatoes into wedges, put in a bowl. Throw in some pepper, salt, chopped garlic, chilli, fresh or dried rosemary and a little oil of your choice. Mix it all together with your fingers and spread out well-spaced on a baking tray (spread out to avoid steaming if the potatoes). Bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes. Yummy. And not nearly as oily as deep fried chips.

Now you see, I find that using raw garlic just burns on the spuds & tastes a bit bitter. I always want nice garlicy wedges so have been using the sachets of stuff which seem to survive the cooking process a bit better.

Yeah, it's true the garlic can sometimes burn. Garlic salt in lieu of salt and fresh garlic can be good too.

I love homemade oven chips and wedges. From either normal potatoes or sweet potatoes.

Is it the new Philips Airfryer? Was looking into it but it was £200!

The Actifry is the other one but the whole 'blowing up' scenario leaves me a bit on edge.
