Best thing you can do with a spud?

I would have to say roasted in goose fat after parboiling to make them nice & crispy.

What's the best thing to do to Britains #1 vegetable?

Does any one else make "roasties"? Now, these are not roast potatoes.

What they are is like cubed chips. They are not sauteed potatoes or what the US would call homefries. They are little cubes of potatoes that are deep fried until golden.

I first had them from a local deli that my mates mam worked in and have loved them ever since.
And they also taste better when they are soft so they don't have to be par-boiled or blanched and then cooked a second time to be crispy.

They are quick and easy to make.

As a snack just sprinkle with salt and rosemary.

The potato comes from South America and has nothing to do with Britain.

I tend to avoid them.

Roasted. No, mashed. No, chipped. No, croquetted. No, boiled waxy potatoes with butter and salt.

Sorry, can't choose!

What has that got to do with anything? Do food has to be native for you to like it?

I agree, except I much prefer duck fat.

I wasn't quite sure if people were aware of the origins of the potato and where it comes from.

Having read an article today I found very strange that a survey of Americans have no idea that chips are made from potatoes and some don't even know what a potato or a tomato looks like which is worrying.

I find potatoes tiresome and bland unless I cook them myself then they are passable but not my idea favourite.

I eat plenty of vegetables from around the world. Just not fond of spuds when there are more worthwhile candidates.

No, well that's fair enough obviously, I just thought them being not British was your reason for avoiding.

I dislike that other popular carb, pasta.
