Same thing every week. As soon as he said the first sentence we knew he was going to end with something positive. He's been doing it every week. Its pathetic. Why do the audience behave like they'[re either in a pantomime or outside the Big Brother house. ”

The crowd are prompted to boo and cheer by studio staff with boards. Whether it's for contestants or performances or for judges' comments.

This has only been the case this year and last year since the BGT format was borrowed from.

That because the studio staff are holding up cue cards with the words Cheer, Boo, Scream and Applause.

The X factor team don't have to put microphones in the audience and they could insist on no noise during a performance – but that would actually show up that none of the participants can sing.

it's all pantomime with the audience -the booing and the like - but the booing whenever a negative criticism is given is rather lame.

What I DO find annoying with audiences though is they have to cheer and scream whenever a key change happens or stage fireworks etc go off..suggests the average audience member has the sophistication level of being excited when a new Aldi store opens!

If I was in the audience and I saw someone holding up signs with instructions on Id do the exact opposite of what they want me to do, just to be awkward.

Stuff these producers.

Signs aren't held up to tell the audience to do stuff whatsoever . It is basically just a man telling the audience to make noise by waving his arms around...
The audience are told to cheer or boo hence the whole pantomime response.
From being there yesterday and seeing it on tv, I think it is fair enough to cheer on an act that you support but the whole cheering or booing over the judges is I agree turning the competition in to a pantomime, especially booing what is often constructive criticism and a fair point to make.
However it also has to be remembered that the contestants family members are also in the audience and are often the ones who start the booing if their relative gets a bad comment.

It's gotten so annoying i have to FF half of the judges comments as well as ad breaks and sob stories. I can start watching an hour later and catch up to the end now.

the screaming over the judges used to really annoy me, but tbh the judges comments are so amazingly repetitive and rubbish now I never feel I'm missing anything anymore if I can't hear them

So if the studio staff told them to go play with buses, they'd do that would they?

Do they have to do everything they're told and why can't they just shutup while the judges are speaking
