What time of day was it? Four o'clock or six ?
People have different ideas of what constitutes 'tea'. |

"Tea" is the main evening meal meal that you have at 5-6pm.
Sometimes there is soup beforehand or a pudding afterwards. Sometimes it is a three-courser! ![]() If someone invited me round for "tea" and tried to fob me off with a wee cup of tea and a sandwich, I would be more than a little bit annoyed! |

Being scottish ,when I was young "tea time "was thought of as the main dinner served usually between 5 and 6 when my parents got home from work.
Nowadays most of us call the main meal of the day" dinner" and can be served anytime in our busy schedules of shifts. |

Tea is at 4pm. Supper, or formal dinner is at 8pm.
Tea is a cup of tea and either a biscuit, scone, fairy cake, or a crumpet. I am mindful that in northern parts of Britain, dinner is at lunchtime and tea is 'dinner'. Very confusing! Do what you want, each to their own... but if invited for tea please don't expect a full meal. |
