Possible to get contract under parent's name but payments come from my account?
Hi
I recently tried to get a new contract, but was refused. I was wondering if it is possible to get the contract under, say, my Mum's name but the monthly direct debit to come out of my own account? I'm guessing that whatever the name on the contract, also has to be the name on the linked bank account, but I thought I'd enquire anyways. |

I have done that in the past (contract in my name, payments from elsewhere) Might be wise to have the first payment from your mum's account though, so as not to confuse them! Or why not just give your mum the money? There usually 14 days from the bill date to payment taken, so plenty of time to give her the money? |

Yeah that's a good point about the 14 day delay, I just didn't want to worry my Mum about the money coming out of her bank etc. so she can focus on her own direct debits.
So is it possible to change the bank account on the contract at any time? I ask because if I was to set up the account on her name and her bank account, would I then be able to change the account to mine when I/we felt the need? Thanks for your help guys. |

Bear in mind that if you don't pay (or are late paying) that information shows on your mum's credit file. |

I think you will have to set up standing order to your mum's account.
Any amount you go over, credit to her account well in advance of payment being taken from her. Then she needn't worry about your contract in her name. Though you also need to think about why you were refused a contract. Maybe take a look at your credit history file, sort out your finances etc. |

Yeah, just pay her for it and become secondary user on your phones account (the one where you ring them up etc) and tell your mum to tell them she gives you permision to do whatever you like with the account, other wise they'll ask to speak to your mum all the time should you ring them. I did this on Orange just before I got a card.

Goto Carphone Warehouse with your Mum and they will do exactly this.
She will need to take ID to take the contract out and obviously you'll need to take your bank card with you. Steve |

If you are going to set one up in your mums name then I would have the first payment come from her bank account. Reason being is with the majority of networks Direct Debit details are used as part of the credit checking process, if someone else DD details are used it can on occasion flag up as being suspicious (not saying it always happens). At least if the first payment comes out they know the account is legit and they will happily change over DD details in some cases you can do it online.
Who is the network you are considering going with? |

Maybe I'm missing something here.
If you have been turned away for a contract phone why not get a PAYG phone? Or is there some compelling reason why it HAS to be contract. |
