Friday EE - Fab!
Alot of people have already slated today's EE, but I really think the episode was brill!!!
They built up the tension really well with the Den/Chrissie/Kate triangle, especially when Chrissie came in and they were just round the corner. Also, Den's funny one-liners can ALWAYS brighten up an episode and add humour. Plus, I LOVE the character based episodes like today. Where they have about 5 characters in the lime-light and they get developed. Like today we learnt that Kate hates loving Den but she still does. In my opinion, thumbs up! But, yeah, it's slightly unrealistic that Den would get two of the best women in the square. Oh well! I'll go along with it

Pretty much my thoughts on the matter too.. I HATE Den mauling the face off Kate.. it's ridiculous, and just plain gross. However, Chrissie and Kate are both good characters and I don't see Mrs. Watts doing a Sam Mitchell and crying her heart out. For once we're likely to see revenge for an affair, rather than the usual sobbing and sleeping on the sofa routine..
Yeah the development helped a lot. The plot is getting some touches of much needed realism. Apart from Den being ancient it makes sense. Kate doesn't like Den as a person.. it's just that she has an appetite for the bad-boys who she always knows are mr.wrongs. If Den was Dennis the plot would run like clockwork. The only major flaw is that they're still clinging onto the long dead image Dirty Den once had.. I mean c'mon! We can't ignore the wrinkles! It also helped that some proper emotion was shown.. not the unrealistic wailing that the like of Sharon Watts comes up with. I mean Den's a liar and a general scumbag.. therefore the instinct of most sane people would be to kick him where it hurts. Full marks to the script-writers on that count. The one-liners were good, but not really for brightening the situation IMO. I just thought that it made him more hateable and seem more uncaring as he laughed off the situation while Kate was distressed. It was also good to see that elements like Sharon being Kate's friend, Den being married and a father to three kids, Chrissie not deserving the betrayal of her co-worker were not omitted for a change. Some character consistency. You're right chocopop, it's good that at least the EE people are aiming for character-based storylines rather than sensational plots which don't suit the character's involved. |

Yeah I totally agree with you, it's sick to see them kiss! But actually, when I think about it, I understand why Kate likes Den, with the whole rep thing, but it is still hard for us to ignore his wrinkles!
Oh my GOD! How good was it when she slapped him and then kneed him where it hurts?! AHAHAHA! LOL that was really good and unexpected! He is such a... well I don't know what to call it but it was good that the writers had him going "Slap me, I deserve it... Come on, you'd make a good slapper" LOL Den can be so funny! |

Last night's ep was the best for some time - which isn't saying much of course!
I thought the scenes between Kate and Den were surprisingly well written and reasonably convincing in terms of dialogue - but as you say Garbage, it would be far MORE convincing if the character involved was Dennis rather than Den. The idea that two attractive intelligent women find Den irresistible is unbelievable bollox. Of course they had to ruin the dramatic tension with the nonsensical idea that Chrissy would go into a brightly lit, un-alarmed club, see a bottle of open wine on the counter, be wondering where Den is, and completely overlook the fact he's snogging Kate three feet away from her. Nice to see plenty of stuff from Ian and Jane, Ian never lets us down, and the writers have kept his character consistent which is a bit of a triumph nowadays. Jane's a good character too, hope the writers keep it that way. |

Anyway, have to say I thought last night's EE was as good as last night's corrie.. which wasn't great. Apart from Hayley buying Frankie the dress it was boring enough. Maya's skulking around was ridiculous.. her smiling in Sunita's mirror was so pathetic. Hayley and Roy talking about travelling the country lacked proper humour and seemed too much like they wanted to make the croppers seem like prats, just for the sake of it. It lacked the usual subtleties. Also the plot with Audrey thinking about employing Sarah is a waste of time. It's highly dull.. Candice isn't a very interesting character so nobody will care much if she's fired. In fact the salon is the only place where she's seen anyway. |

I agree Corrie wasnt up to its usual standard last night but I didnt see any improvement in EE last night . Maybe this was due to the fact that she who must be obeyed made me watch it. I really did think it was just the same old shit that it has been of late. Same cyclic stories only with different characters.
Believe me when I say that if it makes a dramatic return to glory I will be the first one to eat my hat along with a large slice of Humble Pie. However my hat is safe for the forseeable future. |

I quite liked EE last night, I really enjoyed the Chrissie/Vicki scenes as you really get to see Chrissie becoming part of the family and it's building up the Watts again, I think LB finally saw what a mistake Shannis was and is trying to repair that by rebuilding the family.
Den and Kate was good, but I didn't like him turning up at her's at the end, they should have left you wondering if the relationship was over or not. |

But why should they care about the ratings,. Its us the poor licence payers who foot the bill for these overpaid luvvies. Scrap the licence fee and run the beeb as a commercial enterprise then we would see ratings improvement all round True.. but whatever confidence the script-writers had in their abilities should at least have been slightly rattled. I don't doubt that these people see themselves as literary geniuses. Even if their pay cheques don't take a battering, their pride should. |

I gave up on Eastenders about a year ago. It was just too miserable, too ridiculous, too inconsistent. But this week, having pretty much nothing better to do, I've watched two episodes, and I have to say it's improved. Above all, it's noticeably less gloomy than it was. It was so good to see Pat have a bit of good luck for once (please, Louise, don't let her see it all slip away), and that new woman in the cafe, the one that seems to like Ian, is cheerful and ordinary and a breath of fresh air. Above all, Andy seems to have mellowed and was actually quite likeable. Dot was, of course, brilliant, as ever. There were some remnants of the old EE - Jim and Patrick are as tedious as they ever were and I still can't take either Mo or Mickey seriously - but, from the limited amount I've seen this week, I think it might just be starting to clamber out of the deep, dark hole it got itself into. It's got a long way to go yet to rival the humour and overall niceness of Corrie, but it's a start. I might just watch it again next week.

Well, EastEnders is definately improving!
but I would not go as far as saying it was fab compared to the gripping storylines in the 90's and into into 2000's
