I really hope we get Up! this year. Nearly every single schedule prediction i've seen has the movie in it. If it doesn't air, lots of people are going to be disappointed! It's a great film and I can't wait to watch it again

I'd love to see it again, and I know that my family (those that haven't seen it yet) would really enjoy it - think it could be a real ratings winner if they show it at the right time.

The UK comedy website has the QI Christmas episode tentatively down as 14th December, which seems a bit wrong to me. Far more likely it'll be a week later on the 21st I'd say, with the repeat or XL version a few days later.

Weirdly, looking at last year's schedules on Claires_Dad's website, QI was on BBC2 every night apart from Christmas Eve from the 23rd to the 30th.

Yeah, I agree it could get high ratings. What time do you think they should show it? I think they should show it early primetime, around 6-7pm. Last years ratings for the movies were awful! Movie premieres don't get the ratings they deserve anymore

They tubs of chocolates seem to have suddenly sprung up from nowhere, since the bank holiday a lot of shops seem to have started selling them pretty cheap.

Good to hear LinusJ. If you could keep mentioning your site in this thread every now and again, it would be much appreciated as I forget to look at it otherwise.

I think they make them early for people like us so we can pretend Christmas is sooner than it actually is.

Comedy UK are just taking an informed guess, they don't know anymore than we do on the scheduling front. I doubt the BBC even know when half of this year's Christmas schedule will play out.

In recent years both BBC and ITV have included soap operas as part of the Christmas day line up. However this wasn't always the case. ITV used to show Coronation Street on the big day, but only when Christmas day fell on a Monday or a Wednesday. When Michael Grade became controller of BBC 1 in 1984 and decided to put Eastenders on the 25th of December, Christmas day on BBC 1 has slowly but surely gone downhill. BBC 1 has had a few memorable Yuletide moments such as the festive specials of Only Fools And Horses, but the quality of BBC 1's seasonal line up is in my view not as good as it used to be.
ITV used to have some good quality viewing over the festive period, but now they show Coronation Street and their other soap operas regardless of what day Christmas day falls on.
Who remembers the Christmas days of years ago when BBC and ITV would show 2 Hollywood style blockbuster films on the big day itself ? They would each show 1 film just after the Queen's speech then another later on that day sometime around 6.pm or 7.pm.
Is it asking too much for me to ask those in charge for those in charge of BBC and ITV to maybe reduce the amount of soap operas that they show over the Christmas period and to consider showing a better variety of programme that families can watch together. Thank God for You Tube , because at least by visiting that website I can remind myself of how good Christmas TV used to be.

I'm no fan of the soaps, depressing and predictable as they are, but I would say that there's at least around a dozen or so other stations to flick over to for the hour or so of programming that this applies to, including BBC2 and C4 (eg. anyone that didn't fancy Eastenders last year had Downton Abbey, The Toys That Made Christmas and Alan Carr's Christmas Special to choose from on the three other terrestrial channels alone, which isn't that bad, surely? )

Also, although the offerings might not be to everyone's liking (Shrek, Ratatouille, Happy Feet, the Incredibles etc) , both BBC1 and ITV have been showing films in slots similar to the ones you describe for years. I've looked back 10 years on Claires_Dad's (brilliant) website and both channels have shown films fairly consistently - either straight after the Queen or within an hour after it. ITV don't usually show another until late at night, but BBC have typically squeezed another in between 4.30pm and 7 from what I can see, with only a few years proving the exception.

No! It was absolutely right and very, very natural. You were extremely restrained to snap up only two!

Agreed, get stuck in

I bought my kids a couple of Play Mobil advent calendars at the weekend so don't feel too bad!

In my defence they were a bargain and it'll be Decemeber before we know it

Oh! I love Advent Calendars, the old fashioned ones with little doors to open and a really Christmassy picture behind the door. I went a bit mad in January and bought eight so I'm OK for a few years. Will still buy some more though!

You can’t beat a traditional Advent Calendar.

I couldn't sleep last night so I tried to go to my happy place and watch a christmassy film. I felt a bit daft so I settled on the Ice Harvest which is at least set at Christmas.

Btw, I love this thread. It makes me smile!!!

A little over. It's 15 weeks today! 16 weeks today I will take the decorations down!

(it's a tradition of mine to take the Xmas decs on New year's Day. New year, new, fresh start! A nice hoover round and then the New year gets off to a nice clean start!)

Is there anything that we haven't seen yet that could make an impact on our Xmas telly viewings? Something new? We haven't had any new top notch drama in recent years would be beeb put a new 'sherlock' on Xmas day ? I always think its a shame when we have to wait until new years day for it like last year!

I go on holiday on 20th December and come back the 30th so I manage to miss the majority of the Christmas nonsense. Will be interesting to see what the TIVO box decides to record for me.

Apparently the new series of Outnumbered and the Christmas special is being filmed in November, so it's looking likely that we won't see it until next year.

http://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2012/0...nd_outnumbered

It still seems kind of vague however, and I suppose there's every chance they could film and edit the special first to get it ready in time.

With CBBC leaving the main channels, I wonder if BBC2 mornings will be free for Laurel & Hardy and old black and white films/serials.?

A series of of old films every morning would be great. Something like Laurel and Hardy, or the Basil Rathbone 'Sherlock Holmes' films.
