Here is what I would do:

8.30am Lost Christmas (rpt)
10.00 Christmas Morning Worship
11.00 Film: The Sound of Music
1.45 BBC News
2.00 Top of the Pops
3.00 The Queen
3.10 Film: The Sorcerer's Apprentice
4.50 Film: Disney's A Christmas Carol
6.20 BBC News
6.30 EastEnders
7.00 Doctor Who
8.00 The Magicians at Christmas
9.00 EastEnders
9.30 The Royle Family
10.30 Michael McIntyre's Christmas Comedy Roadshow
11.30 BBC News
11.45 On Christmas Night
11.50 Film: Tropic Thunder
A very fair prediction- I'd quibble with just a few of those as likelihoods- but is that really what you would do ? Of course, the great limiting factor is what's available, though- you can't schedule what isn't being made.

That's the beauty of pretence. Actually, if I WERE in the job of devising a Christmas schedule for BBC1 I would commission Christmas specials of Tonights the night, Sherlock, New Tricks and The Celebrity Voice at Christmas.

I would then schedule something like this:

CHRISTMAS EVE

5.50pm FILM: Nativity!
7.30 Tonights The Night Christmas Special
8.30 EastEnders
9.00 The Celebrity Voice at Christmas (New series: 1/5)
10.00 Mrs. Browns Boys Christmas Special
10.30 Michael McIntyre's Christmas Roadshow
11.30 BBC News
11.45 Midnight Mass

CHRISTMAS DAY

5.30 Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special
6.30 Doctor Who
7.30 Film: Disney's A Christmas Carol
9.00 The Celebrity Voice at Christmas
10.00 The Royle Family
11.00 BBC News
11.15 On Christmas Night

BOXING DAY

5.30 Total Wipeout Christmas Special
6.30 Film: Alice In Wonderland
8.00 EastEnders
8.30 The Celebrity Voice at Christmas
9.30 Sherlock Christmas Special
11.00 BBC News
11.15 Match of the Day

I'm not sure about The Voice, having not seen it, though I don't like the sound of it- and certainly not on Christmas Day, if it's a series of 5. Also, definitely not Tonight's the Night; Jim'll Fix It is preferable and can cover the same area. I'm a fan of Sherlock and New Tricks, though. Where is New Tricks in your schedule, BTW ? I'd put a 90 minute episode on Christmas Eve. I'd put Sherlock: The Blue Carbuncle on Thursday 27th. With Strictly- they need at least one stand-out celebrity for a one-off- I'd look to have both latin and ballroom dances enforced for each couple; 100 minute show, incorporating variety and special guests- not sure what day though, but not Christmas Day.

Any schedules I'd do would be dependent on the development of new programmes and revitalised old formats. There'd be more one-off specials of programmes and I'd prefer no more than two editions of a particular programme in a week on One.

I've planned it out every year for the last 35 years and have never got anywhere near.

Looks quite reasonable. I think 'The Nativity' could be shown again every year at 9am like they did this year.

06:00 Breakfast
08:00 The Nativity
09:00 Lost Christmas
10:00 Christmas Day Eucharist
11:00 FILM: The Ultimate Christmas Present
12:25 Shrek The Halls
12:50 BBC News
13:00 Winter Wipeout Christmas Special
14:00 Top of The Pops Christmas Special
15:00 The Queen
15:10 FILM: A Christmas Carol
16:40 TBA Christmas Special
17:50 BBC News
18:00 Doctor Who
19:00 Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special
20:00 EastEnders
20:30 Outnumbered Christmas Special
21:20 EastEnders
21:50 The Royle Family
22:50 Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas Special
23:20 BBC News

Taking of which, what was the eventual verdict on the 2011 Christmas double issue cover? Did we like it or not? Personally, I liked the fact that is was reminiscent of covers of yesteryear, but I didn't find it very involving, and it didn't invite me in like 2010's Wallace & Grommit, or earlier Doctor Who covers.

Well the Christmas cover could have been drawn by a 5 year old aswell. It was flat, boring and lifeless. One of the worst of the artwork covers.

I liked it, it was a bit old fashioned, which is no bad thing, and a move away from the programme themed covers that we have seen over the past few years.

Like fugitive I found it rather flat, boring and lifeless. I didn't dislike it but I was a bit disappointed.

I preferred it to recent covers- I like the idea of generic artwork for Christmas- but didn't like the fact that the feel of it went along with the trendy austerity line; I know how things are, we don't have to wallow in it. What are we going to get next year- a dead or black tree or, perhaps, a completely blank cover ?

What night will the Christmas Night with The Olympians be on? The show that will be hosted by John Inverdale, with music and comedy and all our Gold Medalists on the sofa?

I'm just about to throw my Christmas Radio Times 2011 in the bin - the sign that Christmas is well and truly over.
I liked the cover, it was retro and in keeping with the current trend for all things home-made looking.
Does anyone keep their Christmas RT's?

Anyway, will revisit this thread about Easter time, and a quarter of the year will have been and gone!! and just over 8 months left till Christmas.

Take care till then.

Was there any difference between the edition with the red cover and the one with the green cover (apart from the colour obviously). My local Tesco was selling both.
