I also hate the way big compamies highjack Christmas Carols to the point where when you hear one you immediately think of the advert it accompanies. It's just wrong on every level (thats simply my opinion anyway)”

There are 11 months of mundane gloom in a year. I put my decorations up on 1st December every single year as the build up to Christmas is way more magical than having them up after New Year. The twinkling lights, the cold dark nights, the Christmas trails on TV. The anticipation of the Christmas RT, the giving of gifts. I like the decorations up for all these events. Nowadays Christmas starts earlier so I want to be part of it for as long as possible. If we can't have nice, glittering things to enjoy for five weeks of the year then what's the point?

I also, without exception, take my decorations on New Year's Day morning. For me New Year is fresh date, fresh start. A nice clean up and thorough vaccuum. To me I see no point in keeping decorations up after the New Year's Eve celebrations, there is nothing more to build up to. So decs up on 1st December, and down 1st January. It's the way I like it.

OMG what's the deal with all these poxy films on every day over Christmas, where are all the entertainment shows and the arena docs on comedy stars or musicians. Are ITV going to show a new unforgettable series ?
I don't want itv or bbc clogging up the Christmas schedules with film after film and if that's what itv plan to do every night after the news then that's just plain lazy of them.
God I hope BBC4 save the day and show some great retrospectives because it has to be better then bleeding downtown and call the midwife both on Christmas night,my god are we back in the early 70s again where the sopposed highlight of the day is a film.
Thank god for doctor who and the royle family.

I had a sneak peak on Digiguide for you, as I was sure I saw a few arenas on the schedule. Content is sketchy but there are a few arena's on over Christmas.

22nd Dec - just titled Screen Goddesses
After that there are episodes on Sister Wendy on Christmas Day
Then late night BBC4 episodes on Magical Mystery Tour Revisited ( i'm sure that was on recently),Sonny Rollins and around new year a repeat of the day Amy Winehouse came to Dingle.

Not sure how many of these are actually repeats.

Other than that, BBC4 seems to have a documentary on Norman Wisdom and a lot of music evenings ( Slade, Queen, Johnny Cash, Sinatra, Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette) and an Imagine doc on Tom Jones.

The BBC4 music doc's are fantastic. If what you say is true then those look to be the highlight of the Christmas schedules for me.
