Some people complain incessantly about how much things cost. The Olympics. The Royal Family. The TV Licence. Wars. Benefit Claimants. The Christmas radio Times. The difference of 20p on butter in Sainsburys compared to Tesco's! Why don't they just stop worrying about such things and just enjoy living?

I noticed Twiglets were buy one get one free last week, but this week they weren't! I still bought them for Christmas! I agree with you Tracey. Why don't people worry about the really important things in life?

It's just so pointless! Now we look like we're worrying about not worrying but who cares

In all fairness (getting deep again) I don't go on holidays (just odd days out here and there), I don't have a really expensive living style, why on earth would i deprive myself of my beloved radio times!?

So the annual race is on!

Who is going to be the first to get their hands on this year's copy of the Christmas Radio Times?

I don't have a particularly expensive lifestyle either. I don't buy expensive TV's (My Technika has lasted me four years and is still brilliant!). I buy the cheapest of everything and I love PriMark. I stopped buying Radio Times because of the way the daytime listings were laid out, not the price. But I will buy the Christmas issue.

I guess, through not worrying about what I have or haven't got, the price of things etc. I have the one thing in my life that money can't buy anyway: contentment. That is the only thing I worry about. If I stop being contented and cheery that's when I will start worrying!

Last year it was available in Tesco Gillingham and Rainham on the Monday so good chance it will be again this year.

Obviously most of us are pleased with the cover this year. I remember the discussions on last years cover were a lot more varied........personally, me? I hated last years cover (s) but really like this years. Last year's was tacky and busy.

Hi everyone, first-time poster here, although ive followed these countdown threads for the past 3 years, and always love them, other than when those who get the RT first start to post the listings when id rather wait and find out when i get the double issue myself! anyway, just wanted to say that i think this years cover is grand and cant wait to get a copy in the coming days....merry christmas

The cover reminds me of the 1992 cover

I love the cover this year (even though it wasn't as imaginative as some of our suggestions) and also really loved the cover last year so well done Radio Times, last year I got my copy in the Shop in Uni so hopefully they will have it on Tuesday.

Also big congratulations to the winner of the competition and thanks to claires_dad for organising it.

Oh noes, we have to pay double the price for a double-sized edition.

Unless................

You took up the annual pre Christmas Radio Times subscription offer of 4-6-12 issues for £1 !

Just don't forget to cancel the 2nd DD before it's due, and cancel subs.

Of course also, determining when to start your subs to get the Christmas double issue...

Did that very thing on Wednesday 6 issues for £1 just in time for the christmas issue

Will you be claiming your free Snowman activity book?

Does promoting a c4 prog seem wrong for the radio times, but then again it's
Owned by a separate company now?
The front cover I'm on about?

Seems a bit odd I agree. Nothing wrong with it all though, it's a really nice cover, but if they were to promote a programme I would have expected something different like Call The Midwife or Downton Abbey. I guess because there are very few "programme related" covers for the Christmas Radio Times and when there were they were BBC shows, it does seem weird that they chose a Channel 4 programme this year. And, this is the first ever commercial broadcasters programme to make the cover for a Christmas issue!

I don't think it's weird at all. The Snowman has been a Christmas classic for the last 30 years and this year sees a brand new outing for said character. Add the fact that Raymond Briggs wrote it and used most of the same animators that worked on the original, it seems a logical choice to me.

Goodness knows we've had enough Wallace and Gromit and Doctor Who covers to last us for a while. The Snowman *is* Christmas to a lot of people.

So only a few hours until someone gets the Christmas issue (I wonder who will be first).

This year certainty has gone quick.

I wonder when the new 2013 thread will start. Hopefully after Christmas this time.

I'm not saying it's weird to have the Snowman on the cover. If you read my post I said it's a good cover. But by weird I meant it seemed odd because it is definitive confirmation that it is no longer owned by the BBC and therefore seemed to be the start of a new era. Hence my comment that implied that it was the first time a commercial broadcasters programme featured on the cover. Must admit I have The Snowman toilet paper for Christmas!

I propose the 2013 countdown starts on December 28th. That is when the first RT proper is out after the Christmas one.

I thought they were only being mailed to subscribers on the 11th December. Who are these lucky people who are getting theirs early?

You can buy a copy on the 8th December if you live in London.

Is this cheaper than last years?

I'm sure I paid £3 for mine last year.

Return of The Snowman: 30 years after the Christmas TV classic first took flight

To mark the 30th anniversary of the film — featuring the iconic Walking In The Air flying sequence — the team behind it have made a sequel, The Snowman And The Snowdog, to be screened on Channel 4 on Christmas Eve.
