was it lapland? i really hope we get a couple of decent one off dramas.

i'd also love it if BBC showed the 3 part drama "the nativity" again, i actually bought it on dvd but i've got some friends and family who would really enjoy it.

My sister was watching This Morning today instead of the Olympics and the brilliant BBC coverage but Ricky Tomlinson confirmed a new episode at Christmas this year. He said they were too busy last year but the dates are already set for the filming so its definently happening.

I really, really miss Christmas TV in the UK. It's something that the BBC and ITV channels do exceptionaly well, especially with the festive ident.

While I'm not a huge sport fan, I can imagine there being a fair bit of seasonal feel good programmes from the olympics, football Euros , tennis and also F1 if a Brit wins it this year.

Looking back at previous BBC seasonal programming, that seems to be the trend.

I just wonder how relevant the tradition of having a hit line up of moives during the season is going to be this year. Surely there won't be much that can't be bought or rented on-line.

Surely ITV 1 will show The Dark Knight this Christmas (although I own it on Blu-Ray) it took ITV 1 four years to show Batman Begins, fingers crossed

I Wonder if they will try and write out Twiggy some how after the sad death of Geoffrey Hughes ?

I used to be like Tom Grant and take life far too seriously and not enjoy threads like this. However there is 1 thing that unites everybody here on Digital Spy and that thing is the fact that 1 day we are all going to die. So I've made up my mind to enjoy life and treat each day just like Christmas Day and each night like New Years Eve.
Also why do BBC 1 feel it right to have a 3 hour sequence of breakfast news on Christmas Day morning ? The digital switch over will be complete by 25th of December so anybody wanting in depth news when they are having breakfast on Christmas Day can tune into the BBC News Channel. It's far better in my view for BBC 1 to have short 5 minute bulletins of news and weather at 7am and 8am and maybe show some Laurel and Hardy films and Tom and Jerry cartoons that families can enjoy together as they open their presents. Finally for now I'm looking forward to this years Christmas edition of the Radio Times and I'm pleased that this year it will have the details of Christmas Day and New Years Day in the same magazine.

Breakfast is purely just there as a filler it seems. I think 6-8 they could show a young children's christmas film. Then 8-9 have Breakfast. At least there will be the news round-up and the start, after that they usually show non-news Christmas related stuff.

Here here! Why not also get rid of the usual BBC1 daytime stuff for the entire 2 weeks of the Xmas radio times? No 'Homes under the hammer', 'Bargain hunt' or 'Heir hunters'.

Yes, there's Cbeebies and CBBC (and BBC2 showing a combination of both) but why not have a family movie, or a Laurel & Hardy season or a Chaplin, Keaton, Laurel & Hardy, Lloyd season. I'm easy, you could have anything so long as that 2 week Xmas schedule is treated as something special and given a unique feel. For the last few years, and as pointed out many times on the Xmas RT threads, the BBC Xmas schedules have concentrated too much on the bigger programmes on Xmas day & boxing day.

The BBC schedulers seem to lavish in viewing figures and corporate channel branding - having a unique Xmas TV schedule would surely tick both boxes. I love seeing the predicted xmas day schedules on here, its just a pity that's all we have to look forward too!

i totally agree with some of the previous posts, surely it wouldnt be too hard to put some diffrent programmes on for 2 weeks other than the usual bbc daytime scheduling, there must be some old programmes in the archives that could be shown instead, also one of the previous posts was about the drama "lapland" from last christmas, my wife and i enjoyed this and wouldnt be surprised to see it get another showing this coming christmas..

i hope lapland does get another showing as i missed it last year, but have been sold it based on your good vibe about it.

Hope they manage to edit most of sarah millican out of xmas QI - not my choice at all! Would rather see Jeremy Clarkson than her... and i'm not his biggest fan

I have Lapland on my Sky Plus box and didn't watch it last year because a few people from work said it was really poor. Maybe I'll keep it and give it a watch a bit closer to Christmas.

Good that the Royle Family will be on this year. Missed it last year.

Someone mention the Dark Knight being on this Christmas. ITV have shown that already so it wouldn't be a new thing for Christmas this year.

The Dark Knight hasn't had its terrestrial first showing yet, it took ITV four years to show Batman Begins and that was shown at beginning of December 2009, hopefully it will get its first showing this Christmas

i wonder if they'll show the bbc drama "the nativity" this year? it was on the year before last and it was brilliant, very moving and the acting was fantastic.
