WIth Auto-Sync on, when I connect my iPod to my PC with iTunes running, what would happen if there were more tracks on the iPod than on iTunes on my Hard Drive; will the extra tracks be deleted from the iPod to synchronise it with iTunes? Cheers.

I am round at my folks house trying to install a load of songs onto my Dad's IPod because he asked me to do it. It was charged fully, initially and then left for a month or so whilst the correct USB cable was oredered/delivered. This is the first time it's been done, and I am using XP, the USB2 connectors and the Ipod dock. I've loaded up 154 tracks (516mb) from CD into Itunes and was expecting it to automatically copy across those songs.

What's worrying me is that for the last hour I've had the thing saying it's charging (battery indicator animated) and the "do not disconnect" message flashing at me. Also the Ipod isn't appearing in the Itunes source window Is all this normal? or should I panic now.

any help much appreciated,

Have you installed the ipod software on the pc?

I forgot to do this at first and wondered why itunes didnt see my ipod.
I think you're supposed to install the software before connecting the ipod.

Yeah it is there, and I may try a re-install, the other thing is the possibility of it being formatted for a mac machine! Annoying, isn't it. Thanks for the reply.

It would be good if they brought out a portable DVD player, that way you can view your movies, put your MP3's on to DVD-R/RW or +R/RW and also view photo CD's. I think that would be a really good idea. People would start to buy it, and abandon the Ipod. 2004(c) 6feetunder_1985

Unless you have set Ipod to manual sync it does actually delete songs from ipod if they not on itunes.

If you connect your iPod to your PC with auto-sync on, it will synchronise your iTunes Library and your iPod. If you remove anything from your iTunes Library, it will be removed from your iPod.

Yeah, it comes up as Mass Storage Drive E: however I Tunes does not recognise it even though. It has also been suggested by a friend that reinstalling ITUNES is a good idea so we might try that and see.
other than that I think I'm going to plead with my local Apple shop to have a look for me.

Cheers,

Jimmie
