Advocate or Frontline...

I have always used Frontline in the past but one of my cats developed a possible flea allergy earlier this year and the vet suggested I try Advocate which seems to have sorted the problem. However for the first time ever yesterday I had to tweezer a flipping great tick off his head (euugggh) and I note that Frontline is advertised as killing ticks but Advocate isn't! So not sure whether to switch back to Frontline or stay with Advocate. Or is there something I could use in addition to Advocate (apart from my tweezers).

I read that you have to put the tick in alcohol to kill it and the only stuff I had was a glass of rather nice rose wine....

Yuk my dog used to get ticks after walking in the rabbit infested fields around here, we used to smother them in vaseline, they basically suffocated and fell off...

Here in Guernsey we can only get Frontline but yet again my cat has fleas...it seems to be a continual battle..

I used Frontline for years with my other cats and I got on alright with it, although I noticed it never seemed to kill the fleas completely (even though I used the household flea spray etc as well).

When I got the cat I have now, the vet recommended he use Advocate as it doubles up as a worming treatment as well. I have to admit it is a lot easier using Advocate as you just dab it on the back of his neck, whereas with Frontline we had to pin the cat down to spray him and used to end up covering ourselves with the stuff as well as him!

I think that Advocate starts to work a lot quicker than Frontline does and I have to say that I do prefer Advocate out of the two.

I have never had a cat with a tick so I can't help you with that one, sorry, but other than that I would say that Advocate is better.

Yes Advocate certainly seems to deal with the fleas better but like you I had never had a cat with a tick- until yesterday! Need to pop into vets for more Advocate anyway so will ask them about it.

We use Frontline but I wish it wasn't so damn expensive , I'm sure they are taking us animal lovers to the cleaners with these crazy prices .

It's a lot cheaper online and you don't need a prescription.

I haven't seen a Frontline spray for ages - it usually comes as a drop-on now.
