Best christmas food
What food do you look forward to over Christmas?
I'm never hungry for a roast dinner in the middle of the day, and I eat it out of tradition with out really enjoying it. For me it's all about Boxing Day. You can't beat a cold turkey, sausagemeat stuffing and sweet pickled onion sandwich, or mashed potato's with ham, sausagemeat stuffing and sweet pickled onions (the silverskin type). Gawd I'm hungry whens lunch? |

Where do I begin??
I love everything - the actual Christmas dinner, the turkey sarnies with all the pickles Christmas day night. I love left over turkey curry, turkey chips and salad, I love all the party nibbles that we buy for our boxing day feast. I love the wine & Prosecco, the baileys. Yum, yum! Diet starts 4th Jan

My sister preferred boxing day dinner to christmas day, we used to have cold meats, pickles mash pots (I'd have to have me sprouts though) ....sadly she died in July and am lost without her (dad also died three months previous) So I'm relying on friends for dinner this year.....

![]() first Christmasses are alway so tough!!Glad to hear you are off to friends and I hope that at some point you feel able to raise a glass to your dear sister and Dad. I hope the day isn't too sad, I don't think any of our departed loved ones would want us to be sad on Christmas day? |

I don't 'doi' Christmas and actually enjoy not having the following:
Turkey (done to perfection an ok meat - otherwise very moderate) Sprouts (the vegetable from Beelzebubs own satanic arse) Mince pies (I mean, how can you ruin a pie so?) Christmas pudding (designed for those who plan, after consumption, to lie in a chair for six hours) Sherry (well, Harveys Bristol Cream and other insults to the name - proper Sherry is lovely). I actually enjoy going as far away from 'Christmas' food on 25 December as possible. A home made Chinese meal r similar is always good. Agree with the 'sister' who prefers the Boxing Day food. I did when Cjhristmas was forced upon me. Cold meats (not the vile turkey), pickles, roast potatoes - much less fuss and much more tasty. |

Cold turkey with leftover red cabbage and parsnips, sprout bubble and squeak and chestnut stuffing on Boxing Day. Followed by a hot fruit salad with cream.

Bread sauce, its the only day of the year I have it and I look forward to it most.
Far to lazy to make it so I buy M&S's version of it. |

Either a nice turkey curry or a turkey and cranberry sandwich - yum! |

Boxing day pie, when I worked in the kitchens my head chef introduced me to this and I'd make it every day if I could.
On boxing day take any left over Turkey, beef and ham, put then in a puff pastry lined pie dish. Put a blob of cranberry sauce in and then fill with a White béchamel sauce, top with another puff pastry lid and bake to perfection!! |

A good friend of mine cmes from a Jewish family, and is of the faith (he's also a veggie, wel, most of the time).
Last year I observed that for two reasons (and one of those all of the time) he will never know the joy of (amongst other things) a bacon sandwich. "Yes, I understand" he replied "my brother loves them." "But isn't your brother also a Red Sea Pedestrian?" "Oh yes." I don't think the brother dares to go as far as pigs in blankets on Christmas Day though - family would have a tough time with that for many reasons. |
