Following on from another thread about drinking from bowls, I suddenly have a hankering to get hold of a set of bowls used in France for drinking morning coffee or hot chocolate from.

I rememebr always getting a bowl of hot chocolate for breakfast when I was on a school kid ( many years ago!) on an exchange, staying with a family in the midi-pyrenese area of France.

Have done a quick google and cant find any...anyone have any ideas?

thanks!

hmmm ( thankyou) ...its not what I rememebr...but possibly there are different types?

I remember china bowls - they were like cups ( a bit wider and shallower I think), but with no handles.

Do French people still use them? I asked a friend who's parents have moved there and she said she'd never seen them.

I suppose it s fancy for a school kid!

I saw an 18th century one when I was Googling for you,(can you tell I have time on my hands at the moment!) but didn't think a school kid would be given to drink out of that one either.

How about you order it and get santa to pick up the tab....times have moved on you know!

And I found a forum (whilst Googling) where posters were talking about this same said topic ie French drinking their hot chocolate out of bowls, so you're not going mad.

I remember them from a school trip to France back in the 70's but haven't seen them for years now.

Did want to get some to bring home, but no sign of them in hotels, Carrefour, Auchan etc.

This was something I was taught in French class. How the French live, drinking chocolate out of bowls and Orangina from funny shaped bottles.

I have had better success searching Cafe au Lait bowls ( rather than chocolat) - lots of examples, but still difficult to find nice ones ( well, that appeal to me, and my nostalgic memory) which are in stock, and in the UK

I quite like these...but not in stock.http://www.dibor.co.uk/Product.asp?ProductId=R101 (eta...but amazon have them! )

and look at this collection! oh at times like this I wish DS allowed you to embed photos!
