Drawn in by those reduction stickers?
& end up chucking half of it away because you don't eat it & it goes out of date?
I love shopping. I seem addicted to things with those big yellow reduced stickers on & buy so much crap (stuff that I'd NEVER buy usually) that we end up binning a lot of it as it goes out of date. So do you buy a lot of reduced products from your supermarket? Is it really a bargain if it's something you'd never usually buy

No offers save you money unless you were going to buy the product in the first place or you buy the item in place of something else.
Otherwise, all they are doing is helping you spend money that you wouldn't have if it wasn't reduced. And it definitely isn't good value if you end up chucking it. If I am buying something I buy it either with its use in mind or if I am not going to use it before it goes off (I don't go by the dates though, I go by look & smell) then can I freeze it. Like the other day, I got a couple ducks for £1.50 each near closing of the supermarket (full price was over £10 each). I stuck them in the freezer and they will probably get eaten over Christmas. Bread & Pies always get me. How can you walk past bread and pies that only cost pennies? lol I have learned to avoid the cooked meats at Morrisons though, after a certain point, around 6pm the meat has been hanging around so long it's ridiculously dry and inedible.
In all honesty the only really good deals are the fresh meat ones. I rarely find them but when I do I go nuts, only problem is then you have to go home and cook pretty much right away cause you can tell that meat won't make it another day but it does leave me with a Fridge full of dinners. |

The worst is choc and cakes etc
empty calories, and the "b's" always tempt me with them! |

I will buy reduced casserole meat (steak and lamb) to freeze for curries/stews etc...
Sometimes I will but reduced packaged fruit like raspberries as they are so expensive full price. |

My partner loves to go to m+s and get all of the pre made gastro meals that have been reduced and stock the freezer up for rainy days and lazy days!!

We buy a lot of reduced items and use approved foods site for going out of date items too. The key to saving money is to buy what you can use and with large amounts anything make it up into recipes you can freeze as quick as you can.

I only buy reduced stuff if I know i'm going to need or use it. Or if they don't look too bad then consider freezing them.

You should just freeze the meat if you have a freezer rather than cook with it straight away ? Thats what i do. I am always buying cheap fresh meat as i take the works post to the local store at 4:30pm as they are reducing everything.
Plus like I said it means I have instant dinner in the freezer. |

I disagree, I think it's better to cook it as soon as I get it, that way I don't waste it if for whatever reason I cannot cook it the next day.
Plus like I said it means I have instant dinner in the freezer. Sorry, thats why i mentioned the freezer because you said the above. Didn't have to get defensive

I don't buy reduced stuff tbh - but I will get the BOGOF stuff that I would buy anyway, like jars of tom pasta sauce or bags of dried pasta etc. That works out good value.

![]() So I guess you could say I fall prey to the nifty sales tactic from time to time. I do however hate the Rollback stickers in Asda, mainly because I have seen quite a few things in the past, that have become more expensive than the week before and yet still say roll back on them - I think this is wrong as the price has actually rolled forward. |

What was wrong with what Porcupine said in light of your comment? You were stating that you had to cook the meat straight away as it wouldn't last 'another day' and that was a 'problem' she merely suggested freezing as a solution to that?

One thing I do look out for is reduced items that are on offer, as at times my local Morrisons don't reduce those items enough when they are on their sell by date, so it's cheaper to by two fresh within their sell by date that two that have been reduced in price. |

I got Pork Mince I think 30p it was. I have no idea what to do with it. My o'h hates shepherds pie etc, Likes spicy food but they don't eat pork really. So uber stuck. Will it taste ok in a lasagne?

If they like spicy food, how about a chilli con carne? |

Yes it will taste fine, You will barely tell the difference between pork and beef mince once it is in something like lasagne.
If they like spicy food, how about a chilli con carne? If it turns out nice then I have just scored a bargain if its rank then I wasted 30p |

If it turns out nice then I have just scored a bargain if its rank then I wasted 30p Make pork burgers or pork meaballs if you don't want to improvise a beef dish. |

thanks. On the chilli idea. Just text oh and he replies. "Spicy as hell for me please".
Chillies off our chilli tree for him then. Thankfully being a veggie I can eat something more edible than hell. 30p not yet wasted
