Supporting Gavin is not hypocritical if you don't like Ann. Gavin tries, Ann didn't. Ann is an insufferable smug vile lady, Gavin is lovely. He is also a better dancer than her.
For example. Quote:
Also whilst I admire him/ love to look at him, I haven't ever actually voted for him but even if I had I wouldn't have been hypocritical because he wasn't the worst dancer in the competition.
So do you still support him? |

My Husband (who doesn't vote) has said that he wants Pammie to go before Gavin.
I don't think that's because Gavin is fit though.

The point is, if you took the position that "it's a dance competition", then you're looking a little inconsistent if you then add "But I'm supporting Gavin because he's got a nice bum".
For example. He's now the worst dancer left in the competition - and he's a loooong way from even Pammie in ability. So do you still support him? For my part I vote Gavin, for similar reasons I supported Chris last year. - Starting from scratch and improving - A partnership I really enjoy watching - I like his personality and find him hilarious - Apart from Kara (whom Mr AK votes for and all votes from AK Towers will switch to if she makes the final) I don't like any of the other three left for various reasons. Gav's bum, nice or otherwise, has no bearing on my vote, and from a personal point of view, Gav lacks a little pokeable belly, tattoos and guitar playing skills, so he's really not my cup of tea in the totty department (apart from a brief wobble during Blackpool week, but I blame that on the microphone action .)

I don't base my opinion just on who can dance, but a combination of personality and ability. That's what make entertainment in my opinion.
I wanted Ann to go because I didn't like her as a person, how she came across on TV, how she spoke to others and because she didn't try to dance. Gavin is funny, tries and has a cute face! Job done! This week I want Scott and Pammie to go because I don't like their personalities and I don't think they are as good as they think they are. Both are irritating. I want Gavin to stay this week. Hypocritical - I think not! |

I haven't enjoyed Ann beyond the first couple of weeks, and I have voted for Gavin (and Kara) up to date. I don't feel hypocritical about it.
I vote for Gavin because I enjoy his partnership with Katya, starting at scratch he looks to me like he has improved and he sells the dance imo much better than he did at the start. Even in terms of entertainment, I prefer him to Ann as I always felt Anton did far more of the entertaining than Ann herself. Gavin has put in far more effort and I think deserves his place in the semi final. The fab four were ahead of everyone from week one and have stayed that way, so the fifth candidate would always have been a "weaker" contestant, and I'm pleased it's someone who is making an effort to learn the skills, enjoying doing so and has a sense of humour I can enjoy. Whether I vote for Gavin at all in the semi will depend on performances this weekend, but I will be voting for Kara definitely because I have loved her routines week on week and enjoyed her partnership with Artem. She has been so consistent to date - no really weak dances, and for that I want to see her in the final no matter what her performances this weekend. |

I'm inclined to agree with you OP.
To me, Strictly is an entertainment show and I have no problem with weaker dancers progressing at the expense of better ones if that's who viewers enjoy more. But I do think some people are selective about who they apply that rule too. I don't care that Gavin might have tried a little harder than Ann, the finished product still isn't great. He is still worse than everyone else, so in that respect he's no different to Ann. |

[/QUOTE] I think Gavin is an arrogant idiot, don't understand why you think he is "lovely" but each to their own. But my problem with him is that he can't dance and people overlook that for silly reasons. My point is everyone who votes for Gavin knows he is the worst dancer. But they justify voting for him because they find him attractive, or funny, or think he has improved. It is not a "who has improved the most" or "who is the fittest" competition. My argument was against people who were annoyed at ann being kept in despite her lack of dance skills, but will vote for Gavin knowing he is the worst dancer. No one can deny the others are better dancers than he is. They are by a country mile. Now if people choose not to vote for Pam, Scott or whoever because they dislike their attitudes or something, fine. I only get annoyed when it is people who condemn someone for bad dancing then vote for another bad dancer because they fancy them. |

I write as one who voted for Gavin last week (and Matt as I thought he was in trouble) and a few weeks ago and never voted for Ann. And I absolutely believe that the show should be decided by the public vote. But I do agree with the OP to the extent that there is a real double standard from those who claim to have been outraged by Ann's poor dancing but are fine about Gavin. Although he is better than her, he is by far the weakest dancer left in the competition and, to be honest, hasn't really improved much - his first dance was his best. The inescapable fact is that the young and charming can get away with poor dancing whereas the old and charmless (especially if a woman) seem to be fair game for personal abuse and outrage when they have the temerity to display their inadequacies in public.

I will be voting for Gavin because he makes no secret of his desire to win. Now I know he's crap and will probably go first this weekend but I find his attitude refreshingly honest.
He's there to win, not boost his popularity or complete a 'journey'. Unlike others who are constantly splashed over newspapers and magazines. |

If there is any justice, he will come 5th. None of his fans can deny that based on dance ability that it is the fairest outcome.
But we have seen time and time again with these shows that often the fairest result does not happen. I highly doubt Gavin will survive, but if he did it would be a joke and stop this show getting back to being purely about dance. Plus, unlike Chris Hollins and Darren Gough, Gavin is still not a good dancer. I think there really is a double standard with some female voters, they will vote for Gavin because he is good looking and ignore that he can't dance, but condemn Ann for being a dancer because she is a middle aged woman they don't find hot ![]() I am female too by the way, and this just bugs me. |

Norman Deadnan and Dr Joker to leave next please, I have to see what RLeona will come up with for a showdance. Kara to win. Sorted, I thank you. |

![]() I think the idea that Gavin has been on some sort of journey like Gethin/Matt Dawson/Darren Gough is a myth. There isn't a great deal of difference between his opening Waltz and his current Ballroom. And whilst he's less self conscious in his Latin, he's not had a proper breakthrough. Funnily enough, Gav is exactly the sort of contestant I'd usually find myself getting behind. I love an underdog. But the double standards applied to him (and the over-marking by the judges) really have put me off. |

I know some people vote purely on entertainment, and that is fine. I disagree with voting that way but that's just me. It's just the hypocrites who vote knowing Gavin can't dance while complaining about Ann's non ability. I have also heard Ann fans condemn Gavin for bad dancing. It's hilarious! |

But no one as bad as Gavin has made the final. So it would be a big shock if he made it because he can't dance.
I don't think he will by a long shot, but people voting for him are part of the problem with these shows being labelled ridiculous and not credible. Plus, Gavin is very arrogant IMO. On 78 degrees North, he proved he is way too competitive and would do ANYTHING to win, even if it meant others failing. He must know he is the worst dancer. But maybe he is actually deluded enough to think he can challenge the others, which is what bugs me. As much as I disliked Widdy, atleast she knew she couldn't dance. I can understand more when someone can't dance but is likeable, but as far as I can see Ann and Gavin are not nice people. But I accept people have different views on what likeable is. But it is a fact that he is the worst dancer left by a long shot, so I don't understand the votes for him. British people like underdogs too much! |

I think he will be going this week though. Possibly along with Scott, depending on what Scott's performance is like.

I'd say Gavin will be voted for by people who think he's funny. He's my second favourite, although I won't vote for him, and I think people just like him. There's other attractive guys left in the competition, why single Gavin out for the "fit" vote?

My ideal scenario as well, sadly I think Gav's a goner this weekend, but hopefully not with Kara, if Kara goes my flounce will be of epic proportions!.
And, to say, would I want Gav in the final over Kara, not in a million years, but I'd still have him over Deadnan and Dr Joker any day of the week. Still annoys me that NO-ONE has commented on the major stumble by Dr Joker in the VW. (excepting Monkseal)Lots of FMs don't get Gavbot - he was funny and entertaining to a lot of us, she who must not be named was just a pain in the GM. |
