Most shocking decision in UK Apprentice history!!!
What we witnessed today was the most shocking decision in UK Apprentice history.
I still can't believe it's happened. Stuart behaved like a nasty bratt the whole episode. His entire attidude - trying to steal the other team's customers, not being able to sell anything because the public felt harrassed by him, his nauseating arrogance...and worst of all he had no pricing strategy, made up a ridiculous price (which was the reason for the failure of the task!). His 'plea' in the boardroom was nothing short of sickening! Every bit of it...all I heard was this ridiculously arrogant little bratt, full of hot airs about himself and almost frighteningly unaware of how delusional he is. Liz and Stella didn't have to say anything, they were both sitting there trying to contain themselves from laughing, often laughing out loud, at how absurd he was sounding. Of all the boardrooms I've seen in my time this one I thought was going to be the most predictable. Once Stuart started speaking, I remember thinking at one point that Alan Sugar was simply trying to pass the time until he can finally fire him. Sugar didn't have a single thing he can critcise Liz or Stella on, which is why I thought he just let Stuart rabbit on. Liz on the other hand, was almost faultless. What an amazing, dignified, respectful business woman. Brilliant leadership, sales, management, numerical and business acumen. A true goldmine for any business. And she get's fired. The old man has truly lost his marbles? |

Stubags is the Antipaloma.
Mind you, I don't think Surallen made the wrong decision if you're taking the series as a whole into account. He likes his people with sparks, and Liz wasn't one of them. And it's not like he hasn't got form, either. It's too long ago for me to say whether I'd still feel this way in comparison to Liz, but I can understand why she went more than I could understand Miriam way back when. |

I agree 100 percent with you about Mr Baggs. He should have gone..
however... ...Liz is no business genius. She didn't bother to check what sort of prices tour guides charge. This would seem rule 1 in how to do a task - check prices BEFORE you start. She also just accepted the 35 pounds price mark Stuart suggested and didn't barter with the tourist company. |

Baggs should have gone, no question. But is it much worse than firing Raef over Sophocles, or keeping Laura after her disastrous pm performance in week 2?
I think it's got to do with the stage we are at in the competition. Sugar had already made up his mind that Liz is not his winner - and I do understand the reasons for that, so she's expendable. I feel sure that Baggs won't win either, but he will be entertainment for the interviews - so let him stay another week. |

I agree.
It was disappointing to see Lord Sugar completely ignore the actual performance of the three candidates and make his decision on a bizarre whim. As far as I could see it went something like this: LS: "Stuart you are an immature child and it's time for beddy-byes." SB: "But Lord Sugar I made yo-yos as a schoolboy!" LS: "Why on earth didn't you say so sooner. I done (sic) the same thing myself when I was a lad. Liz, you outsold Stuart consistently, you are eloquent, dignified and hardworking. But I look at your CV and see not a single trace of yo-yos, nor any of the wild unsupportable claims that my good friend Stuart has made. Liz -- you're fired!!" Complete nonsense.

As much as I hate to say it (and, trust me, I really do hate thinking what I'm about to put, let alone typing it), he does have a spark.
What comes out of his mouth is incredibly cringeworthy, and I'm sure he's probably watching some of it back and cringeing too, even if he would say otherwise, he can't sell for toffee, his personal skills have disappeared down a plughole somewhere. Yet despite all of this he seems to have... something. ![]() Yes, Liz works hard. She deserved the place over Stuart. Definitely. And yet, I find myself understanding the decision in some way. Help!

Actually I think Liz's pleading speech was the nail in her coffin.
Stubaggs' was complete fantasy, obviously, but there was bags of passion and a real (if misguided) attempt to sell himself. Stella also showed a strong desire to win and made a very personal case for herself too. Liz just churned out some business jargon 'apprentice speak' cliches. She simply didn't show the passion of the other two, and she didn't make her case on a really personal level. I do believe she really wanted the job, but somehow the hunger and commitment did not come through in the boardroom. |

There is a principle in Apprentice (which normally works) that if your project manager is a t*at and makes spontaneous and stupid decisions that are gonna lose you the task you just let it happen. When he proposed that price, in the midst of negotiations, would it not have been unprofessional of her to jump in and undermine him? |

Liz admitted in You're Fired that she (and the others) didn't check out the prices first. She admitted that was a mistake. This has happened in many tasks over the various series. Lack of pertinent research before starting the actual task!

I agree with others here that Liz is missing the spark that LAS is looking for. She reminds me of Kate Walsh - a strong worker within a team, has a particularly strong point which comes in useful (pitching in both cases) but ultimately a bit bland - I reckon this is what lost it for Kate last year. When Liz is good - see the Babyglo, or the initiative to switch to the car track in the DVD task, she is very good, but ultimately she doesn;t have that fire.
I think (and I'm happy to be wrong) that we're looking at a Stella / Chris final (although I can see Joanna in there instead of one of them, but I'm not sure which one!). If Liz hadn't gone tonight I think she'd have gone next week anyway. |

SirAlan/LordSugar clearly isn't looking for a salesperson so Liz was fired. Simples.

Nothing will ever be as stupid as Week 3 in Series 2. Karen being sat in a Boardroom with Jo Cameron and Alexa and still somehow being fired boggled the mind then, and it does now. At least Stubags and Stella have shown some upside.

The same happened with the Badger - people were so blinded by what she did well they missed what was lacking. I think Liz was a more rounded candidate than Ruth but still lacked that certain 'extra oomph'. I doubt Stubaggs has it either but some of his ponies may yet come through

"Sugar makes shock 'Apprentice' firing" they boomed. "a surprise twist" they screamed. But you know, I'm not shocked. Liz was good, but unremarkable. Sir Alan wants an Apprentice, someone who may not be the complete package but has fire and a spark of brilliance. Liz felt like a secretary, someone dependable but not exciting. |

Has fire but has no people skills, can't sell etc. Stubags might be a real gem when he grows up but he has to grow up. Oh by the way if he's so successful why does he want to work for Sir Alan?

I think LS was intimidated by Stubaggs's threat to turn his field of ponies on him --- "Geddim, boys!"

If I was cynical I would say that AS knew he wouldn't hire Liz anyway and will be getting some perverse pleasure from seeing Baggs getting taken apart in the interviews. There was almost something cruel in the way that he smiled at Stuarts's plea. Mark my words he will be walking next week and it will be a Stella v Joanna final.

I wasn't at all surprised, I've predicted Stuart and Joanna because they are both Sugar types. The others are bankers or somethink akin to...
Stuart's boardroom rant was entirely different from that of Paloma who 'talked herself out of it'. He didn't attack his team at any point, all he did was offer his own potential. he did it rather well for someone his age. Liz is a £50k / year saleswoman. Lord Sugar can hire any number of them, but that's not what he's after. |

I loved Alexa. Hand on heart, I genuinely loved her (in a non-creepy internet message board poster kind of way!). My all time favourite contestant. She was totally useless though. XXX to Alexa.
