Serious businesswoman or WAG
Was Liz really, truly serious about the job?
- the lip gloss - the high heels - the whiter than white teeth No real problem there but then add... - the footballer on the arm - the recent prancing on the red carpet ...could she ever have been taken seriously in a make or break business meeting for Lord Sugar? |

Its a fairly non-descript footballer she is with though.
I suspect its not the last we have seen of her on tv though |

It's not a sexist observation.I would have posted the same question if Liz had been a man with similar traits. |

Maybe.
It only sounds sexist because Liz just happens to be a woman and those traits are the traits of a female fame-hungry wannabee. In other words, it's about fame-hungry wannabees, not men, women, transvestites or anything else. |

I think that's unfair. She always gave the impression that she really wanted the job to me (more so than Kate did last year for example). She may not have shown much passion in the boardroom but she took her firing pretty hard for someone that wasn't serious about getting the job.

I think thats totally unfair. She gave the impression she wanted the job and always took things seriously.
I don't think that is the reason, I don't think she was pushy enough during the boardroom and possibly too similar to last years winner! |

Liz looked good. Whether that falls into some kind of media-generated stereotype of a certain kind of woman or not, I for one, wouldn't criticize her for it. It would be incredibly sad if people really don't take people seriously because they fall into some kind of stereotype (that may or may not be true). Is that what people really think? That a woman who has a footballer for a boyfriend can't be taken seriously? That a woman who ticks all the boxes you mention can't herself be serious about a job? |

Liz has a brain, she has a degree in business and broke the record for sales throughout the entire run of the show. She came across as articulate and capable-the very opposite of a wag.
WAGS celebrate their stupidity and revel in their lack of education whilst focusing solely on one aspect of their existence-their looks. They dress vulgarly and are parasites on the men they are dependant on, its a less honest and honorable existence than prostitution imo-they don't work apart from being papped and you can hardly call that work. Liz is a businesswoman who is beautiful and likes looking glamorous, her boyfriend happens to be a footballer-it doesn't make her a wag. Is it still so hard for some men to get their heads around the idea that a beautiful glamorous woman can be intelligent too? |

Perhaps I'm being a little naive here, but can a wife or girlfriend of a footballer (or any other famous person (assuming the term WAG extends to other facits of celebrity culture) not be taken seriously in her own right?
(Just had a look on google, and according to the website "wagsrag", Sharon Osbourne is listed as a wag.) |

(Just had a look on google, and according to the website "wagsrag", Sharon Osbourne is listed as a wag.) It was originally just a term for footballers other halves but now does seems to be spreading. I can see how Sharon might be termed a WAG because her fame originally came about as a result of who she was married to rather than what she herself did (being Ozzie's manager). I think the "own earnings" argument is that some WAGS would not have gone on have their own career as a model / presenter / fashion "designer" / perfume magnate / spokesperson etc. unless they were a WAG. Those who have careers already before they come to public notice, or those who careers are completely divorced from the world of celebrity and being famous could probably be excluded. Posh is therefore debatable, she did have a career before David but some would argue that she would of disapeared into obscurity pretty quickly without the WAG tag. |

well they make out that it's the WAGs that are talentless.. why are they less talented than someone that kicks a ball around a pitch? They're all as talentfree as each other I think
I hope you're right. I'm off to clean my boots, sign for the nearest premier league club, and earn a fortune for doing something that I have no ability in.

This applies especially to the losing finalist. For example, Ruth Badger got a media career, appeared on BB shows, etc, but that doesn't mean she wasn't serious about the job. It just shows she turned a failure into an opportunity. Quote:

If people tend to under-estimate her, that could be a tactical advantage. The fact that she got record sales for the baby clothes, suggests that at least some people listened to what she said. Unless you think they bought all those units because she looked pretty? |

For every famous WAG who appears to swan around buying clothes and appearing in tabloid rags, there are probably even more who have decent careers or who are just regular wives and mothers (all be it with a bit more money).
Footballer partner doesn't necessarily = brain dead bimbo |

Sadly, yes. (actually, some women too, judging by the nature of a few of the anti-Liz comments that were being made last week in the light of Liz v Stella ) Also that women who climb the ladder in business can only possibly have got there by 'sleeping to the top' - there's a thread somewhere intimating that about Stella. Pathetic, really. |

There's still a lot of misogyny and racism about. It's pretty disgusting that we have to put up with hate threads* for any women that stay in the process for more than a couple of weeks whereas only the most outrageous of the male candidates tend to get such attention. * By hate threads I mean those enitled X - I don't like her or Y - is she a bitch. |
