We know Matt is doing his Salsa tonight and the swing-a-thon is tonight.

Anything else?

Full list, but no indication of what the swingathon dance is, with 5 couples on a small floor and no traffic lights.

I agree it's a bit weird that Gavin and Kara are doing the same ballroom when all the other dances are different. Would have been better for Kara to do the Waltz this week, especially as we haven't had one since Michelle's five weeks ago! Ah well.

Oh, and the dances each couple hasn't performed:
Gavin/Katya ~ Argentine Tango & Charleston
Kara/Artem ~ Waltz & Samba
Matt/Aliona ~ Waltz & Paso Doble
Pamela/James ~ Argentine Tango & Samba
Scott/Natalie ~ Foxtrot & Cha Cha Cha”

Oh yeah, I know the dances, I was just wondering if anyone knew which ones were being danced tonight and which ones tomorrow.

Are we sure that Matt is doing Salsa tonight? Source? I would have thought it would be ballroom tonight (ie so they are not exhausted for the swingathon) - ie 2 VWs, 1 QS, 1 Tango and 1 AT.

And for Soulmate - the Swingathon will basically be a mixture between Rock n Roll, Jive, Jitterbug, some Hustle (maybe) based on West Coast Swing or East Coast Swing ... - basically it will be a bit of everything.

One of the main steps in West Coast Swing is call the Sugar Push (cross between Jive basic and a CCC figure (coming together then separating). The first half of this step usually preceeds any number of figures including lifts, swings around shoulders, back and forward through the legs (something Brian and Kristina did a lot), the round the world (when the woman is swung round the back of the man and she swings round whilst he is only holding her legs... [sorry not a very good description].

It will be exhausting for the ones that reach the end.

Bearing in mind that all the couples will dance at least 40-50** seconds together before anyone is eliminated (or it wouldnt be fair to elminate anyone before this time to give them a chance), and say they eliminate another couple every 20-30** seconds later, the last two couples are likely to be dancing (at a minimum) double the time they usually spend on the dance floor.

Only the ones with the most stamina will last. [I know I have tried to do a similar thing at a CCC competition which is not half so draining u usually have a round routine of usually a minute that you repeat 2 or 3 times - but by the time you get to the 2nd/3rd time round it gets hard to keep posture and discipline yourself to do the routine as cleanly then unless you have boundless stamina.]

[** and these estimates could well be much longer.]

Yes we're sure, source is both Matt and Aliona's twitters.

Gavin will have the stamina, it's just no one expects the judges to leave him out there to get on with it.

I'm not sure what priority any of the contestants/pros will have put on the swing though. Katya may have just concentrated on the VW and Samba.

God help us, on a small floor with overhead lifts, with 5 women swinging round the world, Kara doing cartwheels and Matt backflips, (Ann swinging on a trapeze had she stayed), it will be bedlam. St Johns Ambulance should be on site, life assurance salesmen too.

Gavin will save energy by exhibiting his abs then kissing 4 judges in turn, Natalie will wrestle Scott round the floor without turning a hair. Pamela Stephenson PhD OAP the most canny of them all, will dance the furthest from the judges, doing the minimum to last the distance hidden behind a forest of flailing arms and legs.

Could be an all latin night tonight then, with ballroom tomorrow. Or more likely it's going to be a mixture on both nights.

Personally I would like to do the ballroom tonight with the Swing in mind. It could be considered a tad unfair if say Kara does the Rumba tonight with Matt doing the Salsa and Scott doing the Charleston as the Salsa/Charleston are far faster dances. I hope the beeb keeps that as fair as possible.

I think the swingathon is going to be carnage I would have thought it would have been safer to have them all doing jive with no lifts allowed - having lifts makes it easier for couples to position themselves to take out the opposition
Scott was on BBC breakfast this morning and he said that they had rehearsed yesterday but they had to change from a tap on the shoulder to an announcer calling them off the floor, as the couples kept running away to avoid being tapped. I have visions of the mayhem of their rehearasal.

Thanks for that list soulmate. I have completely lost track of who's done what. Very helpful.

I knew all of that Thanks, very interesting.

I'm worried about Pamela. Her jive wasn't brilliant and she is much older than the others, so having to learn 3 dances might be too much for her. I hope I'm wrong!

I have a feeling that Kara will do very well, and Scott's jive was good, so he has a fighting chance. His workload may send him over the edge though.

Tonight starts at 9pm, presumably ending at 10pm without displacing 10 O'clock News. With realtime transmission it will be quite a squeeze. Couples who dance ballroom first will need a quick costume change for the swingathon.

If anyone from ITT is reading this, I'd pay good money to see that footage

Love it as long as their is none of the running commentary. I think Gavin will be first to go however if it staged like this.

Shades of Strictly Ballroom where Scott Hastings gets disqualified by President Fife and his loudhailer.

I have visions of Gavin scooping Katya up in one arm and legging it, as Alesha, Bruno and Craig sprint after him, with Tess yelling for them to wait as she shins down a fireman's pole from the TessTower in a barely controlled "guntastic" frenzy.

I imagine a cross between that and the "murder on the dance floor" video where she's slipping butter under shoes and flirting outrageously with the judges! Might work for Gavin .

Problem is that this idea has come from the States where their dance floor is huge (probably about 2 or 3 times the size of the one at TVC.

I agree - its going to be carnage...

And oh so funny that the couples were running away.

Now I have images of Len and his loudspeaker!

The radio news on radio 2 this morning said its the first time they have all danced the same dance together on Strictly. eeer no they did that group ballroom thing last year when Brian should have been 'sent off' for fouling

They did it in series 5 when Matt and Alesha both danced Viennese Waltz together in the final!
