Veneers and crowns have their place in Dentistry but as a profession we are trying to dissuade patients from destroying perfectly sound, tooth tissue.

I`d be seriously rich if I agreed to give every patient the cosmetic treatment they want....but don`t need.....I know someone else will do it.....but at least I`v taken the time to warn them about all the potential long term problems....which many make-over programs fail to mention.”

As someone who had to have several crowns fitted to repair broken teeth after a facial injury in my teens, I couldn't agree more.

I get so annoyed when I see yet one more person who has had their perfectly healthy and perfectly normal looking teeth tampered with.

I would give anything to have my natural teeth back (albeit that I was lucky enough to have very straight and almost white teeth).

I have endured several problems that I'm sure are among those you may explain - the latest being an uncomfortable gap that has developed between my two front teeth and displacement of my pre-incisor to an extent that at a distance, it looks like it's missing.

Throughout the years, they have even affected my being able to eat certain things.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. If more people knew the potential long-term problems, most of them would leave well alone.

I'll always regard Liz as the snaggle-toothed beauty who shouldn't have gone when she did.

Think it gives her character
