I'm considering investing in a Sodastream. It's been decades since I last had one and my questions are: are the latest flavours any good? Is it cost effective compared to buying 2L carbonated drinks from the supermarket?

According to the website, a bottle of cola flavouring costs £2.99 and makes 12 litres. A big canister of gas costs £8.99 to refill and does 60 litres (plus £5.99 P&P via the website if you spend less than £59).

If you ignore the price of the machine, that's (2.99/12) + (8.99/60) = 40p per litre (50p with P&P)

An own-brand 2 litre bottle of cola is 47p at Asda or £1.66 for a branded version.

Sorry, dont know the answers to your questions but I too am thinking of investing in one - where would you get the gas canisters from?

The Sodastream will give you sparkling water at around 15p a litre (ignoring the cost of the machine itself) which is then mixed with the concentrate. Sparkling water is around 17p for a 2 litre bottle from Asda or Tesco, so financially it doesn't really make sense. However, by going down the Sodastream route you don't have to lug bottles of water around and there's also the environmental impact of bottled water to consider if that kind of thing matters to you.

I'm currrently in the US, they have different flavours here including their own version concentrate of Mountain Dew and Root Beer. I'm planning on bringing back a couple of these back and was thinking of mixing them just with bottled sparkling water, anyone else tried this?
