can't connect iphone to bt fon hotspot with tesco mobile
having a bit of a problem with the bt fon service tesco mobile provide. according to this page: http://phone-shop.tesco.com/iphone-h...tarted.aspx#27 it says I need to enter in my phone number to connect to the bt fon network Quote:
How do I set up my iPhone to use the BT Openzone's network of hotspots? the problem there was I could not see where to enter this in on the webpage. I get the default page that comes up for access to bt fon hotspots when trying to access from a computer. There is one time authentication process to follow when you first visit a BT Openzone hotspot. Simply follow the steps below to complete this authentication. Ensure you have a Wi-Fi connection. Check the upper left corner of the screen for the Wi-Fi symbol. From the iPhone main menu page, select the 'Safari' icon which initiates a search for available Wi-Fi hotspots in your location. If you are in coverage of a BT Openzone hotspot, you will be offered ' Wi-Fi Zone - BT Openzone’. Select it if you wish to connect through. From Safari bookmarks, tap on a bookmark and depending on your selection this will take you to the BT Openzone iPhone home page. Enter your Mobile Phone Number and select 'go'. When Wi-Fi session is established, you will see 'Welome to BT Openzone' and the session counter displays the session time. You can now begin your Wi-Fi browsing session! so I looked at the faq http://www.btfon.com/support/faqs#point03 and followed these instructions: Quote:
How do I connect to BTFON with an iPhone or iPod Touch? but, this doesn't seem to work either! I still get taken to the default web page for bt fon which looks a bit like this;If you have an iPhone or an iPod Touch and you want to connect to the Internet through BT Fon, follow the instructions below: Within the Settings->Wi-Fi Networks menu on your device, choose BTOpenzone (or BTFON ). When the device has associated with the BTOpenzone / BTFON SSID, click the arrow next to the BTOpenzone entry. This shows the detailed settings for the connection. Select the DNS section of the details shown. The DNS section will list 3 IP addresses "10.xx.xx.xx, 192.168.22.22, 192.168.22.23" Scroll back through the list by dragging finger across the screen and then delete the initial 10.xx.xx.xx address. Check the DNS section entry is set to "192.168.22.22, 192.168.22.23" (There should be no space at the beginning of the entry) Return to the main screen and enter the Safari browser. Navigating to any Internet URL will redirect to the BT FON landing page. Follow the instructions to log in and connect to the Internet. http://www.btfon.com/ has anyone else had this problem? |

I thought only BT Internet customers can connect to BT Fon hotspots for free? (and the mini BT Openzone hotspots provided by BT Homehubs)
O2 customers (not sure about Tesco) can only connect to public BT Openzone and The Cloud hotspots at pubs, coffee shops, stations, airports etc. for free AFAIK. |
