I don't get all this 'it doesn't matter if her foot was off the floor' business.

It does. The rules say it does. Accidental or not, it should be penalised. With four 9s Kara would still have been at the top of the leader board. That kind of mistake has happened loads of times in the past, but has never been so blatantly ignored by the judges.

Why bother having rules if the judges don't enforce them?

I want Kara to win fair and square - not because the judges decide to ignore the rules with her.

PS Not ONE judge mentioned Pamela's 'stumble' last week, but every judge admitted they saw Kara's foot lift off the floor at least once. That's the difference.
The problem I have is that they haven't been consistent at all. The judges only apply the "rules" when they feel like it. It's only a rule if every judge applies it every single time.

To be fair to Craig, he has been the most consistent judge.

There was absolutely no need for Artem to include a lift in the VW.
I don't think it was intended as a lift. It was a spin where Artem was holding Kara with her foot held out away from her body. It was a difficult move and I think he should have replaced it with something less controversial.

Yes and it cost her a 10 from Craig. I saw that leg in the air, too and thought immediately that could be a problem. She should have kept it touching the floor, she didn't, thus it was not perfect from Craig's point of view.

I think you have her confused with Mrs Pamela Perfect crispih.
Kara is constantly undermarked.

Yes it was and she admitted it herself. She was marked down because of it. If Pamela can get 40 with a small stumble, then Kara can get 39 with her foot slightly off the floor.
I like them both, and I think she should have had 40 with her foot of the floor.

Edit: Why does every thread have to turn into Pamela versus Kara or Pamela bashing thread? It's possible to like them both or am I the only one?

I like them both....but Kara is a far superior dancer and this ought to be reflected in judges comments and scores.

The off-floor foot was picked up on, as is right.

She is by far and away the best dancer of the series.

I think she is, but they both have their merits, their strength and weaknesses. On another thread someone summed it up perfectly. Pamela is less technically able but to me she tries to emote the dance and really goes for it (loses herself in it), Kara is technically brilliant, best dancer ever, but sometimes I wish she would concentrate a wee bit less on the technique and lose herself in the dance (for me Alesha is a good example of that, some of her ballroom dances really touched me, regardless of the fact that she forgot half the routine).

Edit: Example of Alesha's VW which I preferred to Kara's, more emotion less "faffing about" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNsb5eA1Bx8 & her foxtrot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcUwZ...eature=channel

I'm happy for Kara to win, and based on dance merit she should. What's more she seems a lovely lady.

Yes, her foot was off the floor twice. It was still the best dance of the night, and the best viennese walz of the series.

Actually, the foot off the floor was not actually Kara's fault, but Artem's. Artem lifted her just a fraction further up than he should, so her foot bounced off the floor. It is an easy mistake to make, even for a proffessional. This is a very difficult move, that requires a hell of a lot of precision, so credit to them for risking it.

So, OP, before you name tag someone, do us a favour and do your homework first.
It doesn't matter who your favourite is, Kara is by far the best dancer - posible the best of any series so far!
She was sensational tonight. The tiny error was not her fault and she did not get a perfect score, unlike Pamela, who inexplicably received 40 last week.
I don't really care if her foot was off the floor - she deserved a 40 for her VW. The judges are only pedantic when it suits them
I totally agree with these comments.

All of the 'judges' have been inconsistent throughout the series. One week we have rules, the next week we don't; some dances have rules in some weeks, some dances don't!

The 'judges' only apply their rules when it suits them, usually in response to another's comments, probably stated during the dress rehersal prior to the actual competition.

I like them both too

I would like the final to be Kara, Matt and Pammie

yeh,the foot was off,we're all in agreement for once.no doubt karen hardy will point out, as is right, that it was down to her centrifugal force.regardless of this, kara is still as close to perfect as you're likely to see.

So the foot was off the floor ......

However she is not a professional dancer, though the judges take a mark off her for every single mistake she makes, whereas if they had judged Scott's dance from a couple of weeks ago on the mistakes, he should have got 0 as a score!!.

Why is it that they judge Kara more harshly than anyone else?

Pam's dance was not perfect last night but she only lost 5 marks! Somehow they really need to get some kind of scoring policy on the show.

I noted that Len didn't actually critique Pam's dancing but merely said it was good to watch or wtte ...... says it all really. Kara's dance was brilliant to watch and foot perfect, so why was it only wirth 1 point more than Pam's, Mr Goodman??

It's always been like that, Stunty. Remember how harsh Arlene was with Alesha? She openly admitted that she was harder on Alesha because she expected perfection from her. I suppose, in a way, the judges are trying to level the playing-field. If you have naturally gifted dancers (or ones with some previous dancing experience) they're always going to do a better dance than the total beginners, but you have to factor in the j******.

If this were a professional competition, of course the weaker dancers would be penalised more, but this is a light entertainment show, so the normal rules don't apply. Well, that's how I see it anyway.

We get really hung up with the actual marks (I'm guilty of this myself), but at the end of the day it's the position on the leader-board that really matters, not comparative marking.

Exactly! Surely nobody can argue that Kara wasn't the best on the night?

Kara is the best dancer I've seen on 3 years of Strictly - but she is a trained dancer, isn't she? I'm not talking about the odd TV display, but she would have had training as a child and that puts it "in yer bones".

Top of the board. Fair enough. Too right.
Craig was right to give 9 for the infringement. Perfectly fair. But I can see why they got 10s too.

What's with this bitchy 'Miss Perfect' routine though?

Ann's feet were off the floor in every dance. Her marks should be deducted retrospectively leaving her with minus.

The Op has dissapeared since the thread was started .Maybe he/she has a paper round to do , or homework perhaps.

The rules didn't apply to Ann at all. She could do whatever the hell she wanted and she still earned decent enough marks a lot of the time.

Perhaps so, but she didn't deprive anyone else of top spot on the leaderboard.

Neither did Kara. Even if she had got the correct four 9s (imo) she would still have been top of the leaderboard. It would have been a farce if anyone but Kara had topped that leaderboard last night.

I think she should have topped last week's too, but that's a different story.

I think everyone should be marked by the same standards. The fact that Ann had her own rulebook has made this year into a bit of a farce. In that context, the fact that Kara had her foot off the floor really shouldn't matter.

Again, to be fair to Craig, he did give Ann the marks she deserved most of the time.

Len's comment about Kara's AS did annoy me though, as he gave Ann quite respectable marks a lot of the time - talk about hypocrisy!

kara has been 'deprived' of the top leaderboard spot on a couple of occasions (AT week springs to mind)
