Many of her dances have looked clompy and heavy footed and she's stumbled more than a couple of times as well. Her Charleston was as leaden and stompy as her clumsy jive.

I think she's a crap dancer, just to be perfectly clear. Being 61 shouldn't give her a free pass to the final.

The utterly gruesome gurning all the way through that swingathon was quite off-putting as well.
Agreed. I think she looks very heavy and clumpy a lot of the time. I hated the paso. The chair did its bit for knocking about half a minute off, and the rest just stomping about. Ugh.

Pamela's shoes were weird! They looked like bovver boots. What on earth was that all about?
I thought she was wearing clogs.
I thought it was her idea of humour.

Pam's shoes were sit sole dance sneaker. These are often worn for rock and roll. But for jive you wear Latin shoes. I have often seen people wear dance sneakers for swing. They have air cushions in them so act as shock absorbers. I have a pair the same for street dance.have worn them for rock and roll. Sometime wore them when practicing salsa but usually wear Latin sandals for that. Some people wear sneakers for disco class and comps. My daughter used them for street and modern dance. You will often see the pro dancers practice in them

They do come in other colours including White ones you can dye to match costumes which might have been better

The swingathon was just a mess all round really but Pamela looked particularly ungainly. The dress did her no favours. I didn't care for the pasa dress either.

I didn't mind the dress or the dance but I thought her Paso make-up was hideous. It made her look like a clown.

The camera didn't stay on one couple long enough for me to draw any conclusions as to who was good and who wasn't; it was all a bit frenetic. I pretty much have discounted the whole thing on that basis alone. That's not to say I didn't like it though.

Actually, the bits of Pamela I saw were a mix of being good and heavy footed. From what I could see, she got more heavy footed as time went on, assumedly because she ran out of energy.
I agree with you Linda. Totally and utterly.

I really think you had to be there to be able to judge properly, it was impossible for us at home.

The swingathon was muck. I've been to dance competitions where there are numerous couple on the floor and while tonight was probably conceived as an attempt to make SCD look more like an authentic cometition, the camerawork was tragic and so it detracted from what we could see.

And if it was alleged to be a proper reflection of how such things are judged in the real world, it failed spectacularly because Pamela's shoes made her a dead cert to be thrown out first in a real competition. They affected her posture and made her look like a baby elephant with constipation.

It bit harsh, but true. From the little I've seen, Pamela & James should have been the first ones out.

I agree with a lot what is being said on this thread.
The swingathon would have been better telly had the camera stayed on one couple for more than a few seconds. It was difficult to see what was going on.
One thing that you could not miss though was Pamela's hob nail boots. She looks heavy footed enough in this style of dance. How did she beat Gavin?

Pamela's feet were the only things I noticed about her, to be honest. How ungainly! I suppose we have to trust the judges on this one - the viewers at home didn't really get a chance to judge. But I'm not minded to trust the judges after some of their scoring this year...

HATED Pamela's dress for the Paso - geriatric hooker isn't a good look. She's better than that.

I didn't think much of them from what I saw either but to be fair the camera work was so appalling in the swingathon that we didn't really get to see anyone properly

Sorry to say, I agree with this. It was hideous and far too revealing...and I'm no prude.

Yup - I don't think they've always done Pamela favours this series with what they've dressed her in. She's looking great for 61 - fantastic legs and all. But the costume was not befitting someone of her age, and I just wished they'd made the bit at the front a bit longer, for starters. Also, less is sometimes more with cleavage on women of a certain age. I'm pushing 50 myself, here!!

The whole swingathon was a pile of sh*te. You couldn't concentrate on a couple, so we didn't see what the judges saw anyway, and it was just horrid. I hope this is one of the changes they will get rid of.
I agree. I think they should have placed a static camera on the balcony behind the judges so we could see what they saw.

Made a change from cleavage-flashing!

For someone who is often rather leaden (my opinion), all those shoes did was highlight it in flashing neon lights. Hideous.

not sure about the value of the Swingathon at all- I think apart from Kara none of them were brilliant and I am not sure how the judges were differentiating (have to say I was doing the shopping on the Sainsbug website by that time so wouldn't make the best comments on this! )
Scores and Leaderboard as they stand tonight

Check tonight's Leaderboard and the Overall Leaderboard - exactly the same.

All the Swingathon did was ensure all their positions matched overall placings

It has been tense on the forum tonight, hasn't it? Oh well, in cyber-space no-one can hear you scream, so I shall be shot down in flames for the following and, you know, shrug it off and remember that no-one knows where I live...

I agree that the swingathon was a shambolic mess and it was impossible to tell who was doing what, let alone if they were any good or not, but the little I saw of Pamela and James I liked. While the other couples were doing 'ooh, look at me' lifts, they were doing proper swing and I appreciated that.

I've said this in another thread, but I admire Pamela for wearing that paso dress. Nobody would bat an eyelid if Kara or one of the pro females wore a dress like that, but because she's a 61-year-old granny, the whole forum erupts in a wave of tut-tutting. Ageist claptrap, IMO. If I had legs like that at 61, I'm damn sure I'd like to show them off! You go, girl.

I am pretty sure they were dance trainers (probably Bloch). They have an arch and heel, and have a spin spot on the sole. Lots of women wear them to jive in - but I've never seen a woman wearing a pair with a dress.

OMG what a horrific sight!

No way was she 3rd best!

I like reading different points of view on here peeve - it would be a boring place if we all agreed - so I certainly wouldn't shoot you down in flames!

I know YOU wouldn't, Sid - you don't get to be a veteran with a gazillion posts under your belt without learning a bit about give and take!

Also, I work for a charity that has been battling against age discrimination since dinosaurs roamed the earth, so I'm a bit touchy myself on that subject.

I thought Pamela looked clumsy and laboured when she was dancing in the Swingathon. Overall, I thought the whole thing was a mess.
