But right this minute, people around the country will be thinking the same as you and that will add to Matt's already considerable fanbase. As a Kara fan, let me tell you that the judges having a go at your couple, whether deserved or not, is always a good thing when it comes to tallying up the votes

Wasn't impressed with Matt's first dance, (yet again); but found the judgements harsher than expected. I don't buy the conspiracy theories as agree every week, to a certain extent, with Len and Co.
Matt's swing routine was rather impressive though! |

I felt bad for Matt tonight. He looked totally sucker punched. I do agree with all the comments that the judges made, I just think that they said it in such a strong, quite rude sounding way. Only Bruno was really quite eloquent and made me understand clearly why the dance wasn't very good - he explained what a salsa was (and i'm no expert so i need that!) and said it quite calmly and kindly until the stupid dinosaur comment at the end.
In reality it was a bad dance because it didn't feel like a salsa. As i was watching it, i just kept thinking that there were no stand out moments for MAtt and that is down to Aliona. I have found that throughout the series and esp tonight she just choreographed what she wanted to do and it was about giving herself stand out moments. This didnt help the routine or help Matt. Like Bruno said it wasn't fun and smooth like the samba should be. It was too intense like the majority of her routines. So in my eyes, the fault lies with Aliona. Like someone else said on this thread, she has made it clear and even said in one ITT interview that they care about the audience opinion and that the audience enjoy the dance - but this is just leaving Matt to be picked apart by the judges. They shouldn't have directed all the comments at him, he didn't choreograph the routine. I do also think that sometimes wanted to get to the final so bad, can tense people up a bit, so maybe the routine was less manic in rehearsal. I don't know. Ultimately Matt is a great dancer and i hope to see him in the final. But I feel really sad for him because i think he would have been amazing with a partner that choreographed to his strengths. When i look back on this competition, i will only really remember his charleston and cha cha cha which is a shame cos he has so much talent. |

What also got to me was the sheer embarassment of the other contestants afterwards - they did not know where to put themselves.
Even the most ardent Matt fan would agree it was not his best routine and the choreography was salsa lite - but if they want to have a go at Aliona they should do it directly. Taking the ludicrous marks over the last few weeks into account it was at least worth a couple of 8's. Scott only has to turn up to get an eight. They were crushing comments designed to inflict pain - they could have just said lacked salsa content not my kind of routine but they just kept putting the boot in. |

On a sidenote Kara has taken some slating on these forums tonight, I'm guessing partially as a result of the Matt situation and it's ridiculous. She is a wonderful person and danced brilliantly last night. |

If you look right at the end of the Swingathon the first thing Kara did once the music stopped was go and give Matt a hug. Now that was probably partially a "Woo! Congrats to both of us for dancing as long as we did" but I also think it was because of the comments aswell.
On a sidenote Kara has taken some slating on these forums tonight, I'm guessing partially as a result of the Matt situation and it's ridiculous. She is a wonderful person and danced brilliantly last night. I genuinely do believe this was an act of retribution on the part of the judges, but not towards Matt, but Aliona! She had similar comments last year from Len, I'm sure one dance they didn't even give feeback to Rav they just told Aliona off for the choreography. However my opinion of Aliona isn't the same as others on here! 1) She must be a good choreographer as correct me if I'm worng but her and Matt did some amazing pro dances and she muct have been part of the choreography. 2)She has clearly stated that she is choreographing for the publics enjoyment and in this respect she is winning, Matt is the only contestant to get a standing ovation every week, if you watch clips back there are none that get as many standing ovations as Matt. 3) I see her choreography as a different tactic to other pros, I did point this out earlier but it's worth mentioning again, most pros try to please Len, but Aliona is thinking stuff it I just want the public to love it. In fairness to Aliona as there is now no dance off, her tactic is actually genius, what's the point in getting bogged down in rules and basic steps when you can wow people with gymnastics and lifts? The public do seem to love Matt and if his popularity stays constant with Aliona's crowd pleasing routines, it wouldn't matter how amazing his opposition in the fina,l she would have already done her work cultivating the popular opinion. Also I think her tactic has the added advantage of ensuring she stays longer as she has a controversy angle too! As a non dance pro I appreciate that those of you with a passion for ballroom dancing wouldn't like this, and as a non expert, with only Strcitly as my knowledge base, I personally would also like to see more content and less getting between wow lifts, but I think Aliona is getting a lot of stick for choreography being selfish which I don't think it is , it is just a clever tactic that is actually working so far! That is why the judges are angry and frustrated and yes it did reflect in their scores! |

Agreed I think it is sad if Matt fans are takingit out on Kara as she has also been consistently undermarked!

Just incredibly annoying when you have someone as naturally good as Matt, that apart from sorting out his hands, there seems to be very little improvement from week one. By now he should be wiping the floor with most of the rest in terms of scores had the underlying issues been sorted out. |

I think Kara is a fantastic dancer and would not want to denigrate her because of the judging fiasco.
I may have missed some of it but did BBC breakfast completely ignore SCD today after relentlessly pushing it for the last few weeks? |

Agree with most of this. Actually thought Matt's fan base was fairly solid right from the start and Aliona was perfectly aware of this.

By now he should be wiping the floor with most of the rest in terms of scores had the underlying issues been sorted out. If he doesn't win then I do think Aliona will have a lot to answer for! Probably the best tactic would be to wow the audience early on to get the solid fanbase and then work on technique and feeling the dance and including more content with maybe one wow moment per dance maximum! |

The judges should have directed most of what they said to Aliona. I do wonder if Len is fed up of her choreography and is now taking it out on Matt as Aliona doesn't seem to care

As a Matt fan I desperately want him to get the the final but overall I would not be unhappy if Kara won - they have been the two standout performers over the whole contest to me.

Actually think most of their comments were really directed at Aliona who had an "I don't care" look on her face.

The removal of the dance off pretty much has made it open season as far as the actual rules of the dance go, and if Widdecombe has taught us anything it's that, with no dance off, the scores of the judges carry far less importance than they used to so from that point Aliona may have indeed been clever with her 'screw the rules, please the fans' attitude. Although as Ann has also proven there is a limit to that.
If I were Aliona, I would make sure this Tango is damn good tonight- one that will re-assure the audience that Matt can actually dance and not just do backflips. |
