PMSL! LOVE it!
Thank you madam. One must keep a sense of proportion when discussing an entertainment show. |

One must keep a sense of proportion when discussing an entertainment show. One tries, as one who watches the show for the "daarrnnciing, dahling", but one couldn't help but howl at that! |

I agree - didn't understand how Pamela stayed longer than Scott.

With those shoes, Pamela looked like a traffic warden at the staff Christmas party.

I think the problem was that they only had two and a half minutes. 'Swingathon' implies 'marathon'. In the time available, it was impossible to get a sense of any of the couples (and for the judges to get a real sense of them too). If they'd had to dance for even five minutes, we'd all have seen what they could (or couldn't) do. But it's usually assumed that we, the viewers, have the attention span of a gnat, hence this. And yes, it would've been much fairer to have a pro dance between the end of Matt's and the beginning of the Swing-thing.

It's funny how a lot of the people who were complaining about the presence of Ann Widdicombe and saying that this was meant to be a dancing competition are complaining about an addition to the show that makes it more like a real dancing competition. A lot of dancing competitions are done that way, with them all dancing at once.

The problem was the camera work ,we couldnt see the couples and it was all a big swirl of confusion ,Not the idea , not the dancing , just the presentation .

Didn't we have a similar thing with all couples doing the waltz (or was it Viennese Waltz?) last year? That worked.
I agree - the swingathon just looked a mess! |

I thought they did this last year? Maybe I saw it on DWTS.
Here is was a mess. Terrible camera work. For all that was happening there was little coverage of it. |

I'd suggest, you weren't supposed to see it properly. The swingathon was just a way for the judges to add points to the better dancers, to offset the "popularity" vote.

Nope, definitely live. Because right after Matt got a mauling for his salsa, Tess said 'go change quick for the swingathon' and they rushed off, then cue in the VT, some rubbish talk from Brucie and Tess to buy time, and there they were all changed and doing the swingathon!
![]() But I suppose if they wanted to make it look as if it was live they would do that - they do it in chat shows where the singer 'goes to get ready' to sing then they show a pre recorded slot! However, just supposing it was live, clearly Matt was at a huge disadvantage so it wasn't fair at all. And it was basically a big mess with all the couples doing fairly repetitive moves more or less in one place to avoid bumping into each other!¬ |

The Swingathon was a deliberate ploy to give the judges the opportunity of awarding points to put the competitors in the order that they think they should be, regardless of the public vote. The new producer may be many things, but not daft. It would certainly have seen the end of Ann had she still been in.
This is why Kara is in the unassailable position she should be to be included in the final after tonight. Either Scott or Pam to go out with Gavin. Matt's Coutryfile fans will save him. |

I agree with what others have said about poor camera work, and not just in respect of the swingathon, it happens throughout the show. The way the camera spins around the couples makes me feel dizzy. I don't know why they can't just do straightforward, uncomplicated camera angles.

I really enjoyed it. I watched it back 5 times, each time focussing on a different couple and I think the judges got it right, except for Pamela who I would have eliminated before Scott. If you watch it back you can see that Kara kept it clean all the way through; Matt was getting quite messy by the end.
Interesting to note that the after the swingathon, the positions on the judges leaderboard were exactly the same, so I'm not getting why people think it was some kind of conspiracy? |

There was one year where they did a VW as a group dance and were then placed by the judges, because some of the couples were deliberately bashing into each other. Might have been the year Alesha won, but I'm sure someone on here will remember the series.
![]() I think the VW lends itself well to a group dance because the couples circulate round the floor and the performance of the dance is easier to compare. |

I've re-watched this and I can't see any justification for sending Scott off before Pamela.
