So is it just a 'pride' thing that people are going to be spending an awful lot of money this weekend trying to get their favourite to win when in reality all four will bring out an album? As we have seen this year the runner-up can be more successful than the winner anyway . Must be nervous for whoever wins if they miss out on the number one thanks to all these campaigns. They then get labelled as a failure and that is hard to shake off.
Would it actually be better longterm for your favourite act not to win?

I expect Cowell will sign the winner and maybe Cher. No other non-winning contestant has been signed by him in the last two series and I expect it to stay that way. I can certainly see all 4 contestants releasing albums though.

Is he? Whoops, ignore me, I was under the impression he was on a different label.

In that case you have to wonder why he didn't sign any other S5 contestants? Thats the season with the greatest number of successful acts and arguably the most talent.

That's probably because Simon liked Olly and probably has more faith in him than he does with Joe.

It'll be interesting to see if all 4 acts do get signed to Syco or not, but let's remember that people vote for people on the show and are probably not really that concerned what comes after that. They just want to see "their" act win.

The only one I'm 100% confident will get a deal and full support is Cher.

Still people will vote. All the money invested and all the weeks of support can't be thrown away.

The difference is if you win, your contract is secure for a set number of releases. If you are a runner up then you could get something, but if it fails, you are let go pretty quickly.

I think this is why Simon put Cher though. He probably thinks that if Matt wins then the odds are against him so he'll do what he done with Leon and probably what he's going to do with Joe, where he just lets it run to the end of the contract then drops him.

Runners up (or be that non-winning finalists) seemingly do better, with the only exception being Leona (JLS are doing better than Alex) so he may understand this and wants to give Cher a bit more publicity but will sign her (perhaps in a joint deal like Olly).

I could be wrong, of course, but history tends to repeat itself.

Shayne Ward did better the runner up.

Matt would actually be better signed with Epic at least they may have a clue what to do with him I doubt Syco would.

I hope Rebecca loses and finds a label willing to develop her as an artist instead of a product like Syco will be doing.

Don't worry - on the documentary the other week, Olly was only signed after the head of Epic Records wanted to sign him. He had to go back to his day job after the X Factor Tour and it was a couple of months before he was picked up. He was not automatically picked up by Simon until a record contract was available.

To be honest if they have talent and are available then there is no reason why they shouldn't be picked up but there is no guarantee. A few non winning acts get lucky - JLS, G4, Ray Quinn and Rhydian come to mind. A few others like Brenda have had successful careers as well.

I don't think be 2 times in bottom 2 is a good publicity.
Mary signed without going to the final.

There are alot of artists out there that don't depend on a label at all for their developement who are on Independent labels.I think Independent released music accounts for around 30 % of the UK market at the moment which is not insignificant.Major labels are not primarily about developing artists, apart from some artists that are signed to sub-labels of Majors.Rebecca is far too high profile for her to be signed to one of these sub-labels now though. If she is signed to a Major it is more than likely to cash in on the exposure she has got from the show.
Rebecca cannot be signed to another label, apart from one of four nominated high profile sub-labels of Sony (Epic etc.), for 3 months after this weekend.Until then she cannot sign for another label outside of the Sony empire. This has been purposely designed into the contract so that other labels cannot take any immediate advantage of the high profile the show has - they will be forgotten about in the main unless signed within this period.

I think the main reason that $yco has been promising all 4 of the finalist's a contract is to stop the 2 effective other majors (Universal & Warners - EMI are on the verge of being liquidated) of leaching off this show in the form of promotion they didn't contribute towards (the X-factor show itself). It puts them off a little bit from having secret preliminary contract signing negotions.Mary has also been said to being offered a contract in a similar way.

Basically what I am trying to say is the X-factor is not about developement of artists at all.You don't develope artists after they have been on a show that is expecting to get 15 million viewers. This is a speed-success format. If the artists cannot take advantage of the high exposure in the short term they can vertially forget about success further on down the line. There is limited time after this final finishes until anyone takes any further notice in them before they are written of as a show reject.Once that label has been put on them there is little chance of major exposure or anyone who would be interested in their developement.

I thought Alexandra was bottom twice. After a couple of months the public doesn't even remember how many times an act was bottom. Don't see how that can affect the decision to buy a single or not.

Is Mary getting signed confirmed? We sure?

Think this signing of Mary thing is all about Universal, Warners or an Independent label from the possibility of having secret preliminary contract negotiations with her as I commented above.
