Nigella's 'Kitchen' or Jamie's '30 Minute Meals'?
Thinking of getting one of these as a Christmas present. Any recommendations?
I have found them for the same price so cost isn't an issue just looking for which one people see as best? |

I must say I'm a big fan of Nigella. I find her recipes incredibly accessible and simple to make but at the same time, I can't really compare because I don't own any Jamie Oliver cookbooks.
Maybe online reviews on amazon and other websites could help you?

Whom are you buying for - which chef would appeal to the recipient more?
Personally, I would rather have Jamie Oliver, but thats based more on their television programmes - I have never seen inside a Nigella book. (dont own any Jamie Oliver either, but have browsed through friends copies, and enjoyed doing so) |

....mmm, yes , which makes me think again...
...you know, maybe I would actually prefer Nigella as a present, because I'm more likely to buy Jamie myself. if you see. |

It's for my mum (have got her other stuff as well so this isn't the most important present but an extra) but she's open to both of them.

I love Nigella. & I like Jamie.....
but which is best? There's only one way to find out! ![]() FIGHT!!!!!!!! I have both books and don't see how you can compare them as they are both so different. Depends what you're looking for - but appar Jamie's 30 Minute Meals is outselling everything else at the mo by about 3 to 1!

Why do you think he's awful? Just curious, it's not very informative.
Is it his personality you don't like, or his food? Or both? |

His books are best avoided in protest. Nigella is not a fascist and is bubbly and warm and has depth of character and is inspirational. |

I would say Jamie, because keeping his mug within eyeshot will inspire more vigorous chopping and dicing.

He's a fascist and very patronising. He lacks depth and character. His food fascism has lead to a nation of school meal fascists who send notes to parents about what is acceptable in their lunch boxes

I find him to be a bit patronising and glory-hunting but don't you think fascist is a bit strong? Though here's a Charlie Brooker clip you might enjoy:

I fear she may start dry-humping a muffin at any moment. That said I really do love her recipes so I would prefer a Nigella book rather than Jamie. I have a Jamie recipe app on my iPod but tbh I have not used it because I have problems getting a lot of the ingredients. I found Nigella fairly 'user-friendly' and a few of her recipes are family faves in our house. Have a good Xmas and hope your Mum is happy with whatever you decide on

I'd go for Nigella's book. I really like 'Kitchen' - I've already made so many recipes from it in just few weeks of owning it. Really good, tasty and straightforward recipes. Tonight I made the Chicken with herby greek sauce - was delicious and so simple!

I've got both of them. If you mum plans on actually using for any of the recipes the go for nigella but as a read I found jamie's book much better.
