Johnny Red, your point would be strong if this was series one but it isn't and time and again we are seeing the same old patterns unfold, the faux romances, the corporate judging, the joke contestants, the 'shock' eliminations ... yes we love it but we love to bitch about it too

Granted but that hasn't stopped certain people from making me the subject of abuse and name-calling and while ineffectual, it's still annoying.
At least you have a reason for why you don't like something not just because you like someone else better

This is what I was saying though. You explain why you don't like something, you don't just slag them off and the fact people then have a go at you is what I was saying is wrong.
At least you have a reason for why you don't like something not just because you like someone else better ![]() I'm glad there are people that understand disliking something is different from jealous bashing. Sometimes on this forum you're given the impression any negative statement makes you Hitler lol.

I don't hate anybody, but I do hate feeling manipulated and feeling like celebrities aren't on a level playing field where the scores are concerned. And if I think that's the case, I'll say so. That's what a forum is for - voicing our views.
All the couples work so hard perfecting their routines. Is it too much to ask that they be marked fairly? Quote:
Because when you feel like a couple gets an undeserved score, you feel very strongly about it.
![]() It doesn't explain why there are so many unpleasant comments about the contestants. Quote:
People do get a bit wound up when they perceive injustices and many have favourites.
But it's just a message board, where posters can get things off their chests. Just the process of typing a post and sending it, gives some vent to their feelings. But by tomorrow it will have been forgotten, if it hasn't then they have got a problem. All posts are just "cyber graffiti" and eventually bleed off every first page. |

Then why go on that thread, it does exactly what it says on the tin.
... Bollocks. Venom is in your perception, most of the posters on the non-app enjoy themselves and enjoy taking the p*ss out of a bunch of wannabe z-listed celebs. |

Thank you
I'm glad there are people that understand disliking something is different from jealous bashing. Sometimes on this forum you're given the impression any negative statement makes you Hitler lol.For me, the emotional aspect is still the most important, but I can still appreciate a technically good routine performed well even if I don't particularly have any feelings for the person dancing it, if that makes sense? It's why, although Rachel Stevens was technically a great dancer, I just couldn't emotionally connect to her because I didn't feel any joy or love coming from her but I accept that other people obviously did ![]() And it's why Darren Gough will always be my favourite of all the champions because he'd done no dancing at all and he just completely and utterly got it, he got the love and joy that dancing should give you when you're doing it, even if you're no good at it. |

Part of it is due to closure of the BBC Boards
Quote:
Evening all, i dont post much and i think this is the first thread i ever started, i normally lurk, interested in others take on the show.
However it seems this forum is getting worse and worse to me, the general bitchiness, snide comments and what appears to be general hate towards contestants, Pro dancers, the hosts..band.....you name it, i sometimes wonder why some even watch the damn thing at all. I really dont get it it, they are after all just trying to learn to dance, for our entertainment, they arent out there clubbing baby seals or anything. Some of the names on here given to the contestants, i mean, (yes, looking at you Non appreciation) do they really deserve such nastiness? As a group this year the celebs and pros do seem to get on really well, supporting and encouraging one another, pity that cannot be replicated here. Yes, I posted a thread like this e couple of weeks ago, and got slightly scorched for my pains. The closure of the former BBC boards,(heavily moderated and often censored and with a 3 minute delay to stop overzealous posters getting into flame wars) left many people with outspoken views searching for other forums to post on, and they found this place, which has a one-size fits all philosophy. Under the BBC régime the 'robust' posters went to town on the Judges Board while timid posters lurked on other boards discussing costumes etc. Here there's only one list of threads, so robust and timid posters find themselves tangoing together week by week, and some posters just get impatient with political correctness or board etiquette and say what they think without thinking. They don't see their remarks as nasty or bitchy, and we are all seemingly protected by the anonymity of the Internet. The huge disadvantage of the BBC boards was not their slowness but the fact that they closed up shop so soon after the final, before people had finished expressing their feelings or wishing each other happy Christmas. You'll see -unless the glitterball allocation is a true farce, Big-Brother style by reintroducing Ann and Anton, we will all get lovey dovey quite soon. |

I don't spend my life on this forum.
Interesting that I begin my post with similar phrasing to the OP. People who live in a sewer don't tend to realise it. I came on here yesterday morning, and took one look at the list of threads on the main page, and came to pretty much the same conclusion as the OP. I was particularly stuck by the number of hate threads about Aliona. I noticed the Aliona threads especially, because one of the first threads I replied to this season, many weeks ago, was one in which someone was making xenophobic remarks about Aliona. They were dressed up in the form of a joke. Someone says "it's just human nature". My take on it, is that most of the vitriol comes from the sort of women who, in ordinary society, would be termed 'nasty malicous gossips'. And there are plenty of them. Just human nature? Not quite. Female nature. |

Interesting in a thread in which the OP laments the general nastiness of the board, you manage to make a rather nasty generalisation about most of the board members and present it as an anti-nastiness post. I don't like the nastiness on here (and I have complained about some of it in October), but I don't make any nasty inferences about those who post nasty posts. Otherwise I would need to make some inferences about you now.

Well I'd like to appreciate that we're all going bitchy/fluffy on this board and not posting about the X-Factor.
Because that would imply that we'd all been lobotomised. |

Perhaps the way they take the p etc is by posting venom.

I have some sympathy with the OP.
It is one thing for people to have an opinion different from the Judges(Kara would have got 40 but for Craig). However I think what Johnny was getting at is that a lot of stuff here is nothing to do with Dancing Ability rather a dislike bordering on hatred for people that 1..You have never met and 2. Have never done you any harm Finally I come back to a point somebody made earlier namely that the best three over the series are contesting the final. End of story. |

Thanks for the responses, well most, some were a tad off topic ![]() Let me clear something up, seems to some i have come across as a bit of a delicate thing, wanting to spread love and peace, lol, could not be further from the truth. I understand we cant all like the same thing, have different opinions, thats fine, hell it would be a boring old world if we did. My point was purely why is it the fashion now on this board that if you dislike someone on the show you have to denegrate them also, it seems its not enough just to dislike, or not 'get' a partnership. Quote:
Firstly, it's a tradition every year in the NAT to give contestants silly nicknames. And blimey, if you start removing tradition from Strictly, where will it end? You might even see the back of Brucie... ![]() Secondly, "Non appreciation"? Did that not provide some subtle clue? What part of "does what it says on the tin" didn't you get? . And i really have nothing against the idea of the non appreciation thread, when it first started, i believe due to the sheer number of sacharine sweet threads, there were some funny comments and still are. But you can be funny without resorting to some of the names being bandied about as our regular poster from Wales so abley demonstrates in his musings. |

So likening a grandmother to a transvestite is a silly nickname? i think it goes way beyond that.....a silly nickname is 'the old bird' that James calls her, thats something done with affection at least. And i really have nothing against the idea of the non appreciation thread, when it first started, i believe due to the sheer number of sacharine sweet threads, there were some funny comments and still are. I'm confused I agree transvestite seems OTT but from my time in Boogie St in Singapore in the mid sixties it really is difficult to tell without a firm grip of the essentials. Old Grey Mare is much more appropriate because she stomps around like an old cart horse. Not only that sexolog's from Grannies delivered in monologue fashion are not endearing. |
