I haven't spent much time on the Non App thread this year (haven't really spent much tome on DS, full stop) so I may have it wrong, but in the days when I was a regular, we would sometimes read strictures about Non App in other threads that weren't accurate. People on there were being witty rather than bitchy or nasty, though admittedly there was the odd posting that crossed the line. Even the nicknames were given more in amusement than in malice. That might have changed this year, or the tone of the thread may have soured, but it has never hitherto been a bitchy thread. In fact, it has consistently been one of the least nasty (bar the appreciation section).

It might have changed since I left it (and I admit that I initially left because of posts from newer members). That would be sad. It was always a good laugh...

Clearly you never went on the Beeb forums. They were downright nasty in the final weeks of a series. Perhaps some of the posters have migrated across now those forums are no more.

I don't think it's jealousy that drives the nastiness (although it could be a reason why someone doesn't like a particular contestant) but just plain fear that their favourite might not win. For example Kara or Matt fans seeing the other one as the biggest threat to their own favourite (if they both get through tonight, it'll be tin hat time next week).

Just to add, not everyone is nasty, but I guess we all vent our frustrations in different ways.

I think it is often frustration at perceived injustices, or an (over)reaction to the nonsense spouted by the contestants, the judges and Tess.

Yes I think that includes those that attacked that nice old lady AW who competed despite a painful arthritic condition. That bag Alesha was rattling in the mail today probably feels guilty about not giving fair scores to other celebs in order to get rid of AW. She's still at it. Reckons the choice should be down to 11million voters - that gives some insight into how thick skinned she is. We have people rolling on about hate - please these people ain't worth the effort.

BIB1 -Exercise and its subsequent weight loss can actually help those with arthritis, it probably did her the world of good.

BIB2 - The choice was down to the viewers, they didnt vote for AW that week ergo she said Goodbye Widdy.

Depends how bad the condition is my Gran had to pack up helping polio kids down her local pool at ninety because of it. She lived till 95 but the last few years were fraught. That's what I admired about AW her dedication to duty an altruism that in the permissive's society gets short shrift.

I can't say too much about the second yet but the same corrupt judges practices decided who would be in the final.

BIB1 - I think I can safely use my professional judgement to say Ann's condition didnt seem to impair her one little bit.

BIB3 - Again, its down to the public votes. How can people still think the judges have the final say? The dance off is gone...the public votes take precedence. If the public do not vote, that person is gone! Duh!

3. OK So shall we say you know half the voting pattern in advance which the judges do. They may get a nasty surprise occasionally but mostly they know who the public vote for. It don't take a genius to decide who to award marks to in order to achieve the passage of their favourites.

It basically boils down to human negativity which may stem from self loathing, envy, rage at the world, feelings of inadequacy and the unconstrained ID, coupled with the feeling of security that internet anonymity can provide.
