Why One Direction deserve to win - even though they can't sing!
Yes, we all know they are weak vocally. But in these days of auto-tune and other studio technology, that hardly matters. This long ago ceased to be a singing competition, in fact was it ever? It is all about having the so-called "X-Factor" - which I, for one, take to be commerciality.
Let's look at the competition: (1) The nation's favourite painter and decorator: he has Steve Brookstein written all over him don't you think? Cowell will drop him like a hot brick after a suitable period of decency. (2) The model mum: good voice (but very nervous) and rather yawnworthy. She is not in the Leona and Alexandra league - whatever that may be. Lacks star quality. One Direction have huge saleability. Anyone doubting that will note that the Talentless Twins are everywhere - TV ads, billboards etc, and became - individually - millionaires quite a while ago (and are still in their teens). So, I think it is fair to say of the 3 acts in the final, only 1D actually have the X-Factor. |

Why does being marketable equate to 'deserving to win'?

The fact that 1D is Simon's act will mean he has extra incentive to make the succeed, however vocally talentless they are.
I suspect they won't actually win tomorrow but coming second hasn't done JLS any harm and even Olly Murs seems to be on the up. (Compare with winners Steve, Leon and now Joe). So for the boys, 2nd place could be quite a good outcome. |

they CAN sing
they CAN dance ONEDIRECTION are actually the best all-round act in the final... Matt's voice is lovely but personality? he's becoming too cocky for his own good Rebecca - lovely voice but the thought of a two hour concert of watching her bores me to death :/ |

One Direction can be entertaining, I guess, but that's not really the point.
They are saleable in areas other than music and, I have said, X-Factor has long ceased to be - if indeed it ever was - purely a singing competition. So this is why I say 1D have the X-Factor and Matt and Rebecca do not. |

I think they can do it - they have the x-factor. Remarkably saleable and wide appeal. With the exception of Westlife, who could sing a bit at the start of their careers, 1D are probably better now than either TT or Boyzone - I suspect they will have a long and lucrative career if they are managed well and get the right songs.

Matt's voice is lovely but personality? he's becoming too cocky for his own good Rebecca - lovely voice but the thought of a two hour concert of watching her bores me to death :/ Woah there! ![]() As to the claim that 'they can sing' it really depends how far do you want to lie to yourself. Liam and Harry can sort of carry a tune but its nothing I want to hear. We could debate this point all day and to be fair its irrelevant in the world of the boyband because if they begin to record they will be produced to perfection. Plus you never hear some members of big boybands like Take That or Westlife or Boyzone take a solo line so there isnt much reason to argue. Can all five sing - no, does it matter, aye, cos if you claim they can its a lie. If they are so good a group of singers why the backing track with vocals. You cant even claim they 'can mime', cos they cant even do that. So lets not do a Cowell and just talk bullcrap. they are not that good vocally. Thats just the start, where, oh where, do you find the evidence that they can.....dance??? ![]() ![]() ![]() When have they danced? Actually what do you class as 'dance' I will hold my hand up here and admit that I have seen them 'move', tho not always their lips or even vocal chords. I have seen them move across the stage. I have seen them bend over as they deliver powerful 'pretend' vocals, this hides the lack of miming ability as well. Last week they even skipped, to both left and right, and to be honest I think the lack of skipping last night went against them. They even wander behind the judges, but thru all of that range of...ability... there was nothing that looked like dancing, or what I understand to be dancing. The bottom line is they are not much at all, singing ability is naff, no dancing. They got lucky in that SC threw them together, hyped them to the heavens and the other judges went with it and then he did as much as he could to assist their efforts re. singing order, backing tracks, bigging em up, getting Robbie to sing most of the duet, doing the dirty on other acts and using acts like Wagner, Katie and Cher to attract any negativity and let them have a smooth run to the final. Job done. To then have people post claims about how good they are is an insult to intelligence. As for the fact they are better than the other acts is not really saying much and it does not make them any good either.

Because the show is the X-Factor......... not the Singer of the Year competition.
They can't sing. They can't even mime properly. And if you are thinking standing still in a row is called dancing, I'll rest my case here. |

I'm sure it's got plenty of attention on here but the "smiling" bit proves the miming claims. Only Niall remembered to put his mic up and sing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_xv-pw_K9A#t=1m17s
