I'm trying to buy some and looked on veggiestuff. They have bags of Haribo that say Vegetarian friendly, but on the packet it says HALAL. ?

I don't want to buy ANYTHING that has any links to Halal. I don't care if it's veggie/veggie/the most animal free friendly product around! I'll go without, I don't anything that promotes Halal anywhere near me.

Anyone else find this weird?

Yes, I find you weird. Halal just means that it is safe for Muslims.

Veggie Haribo is very chewy btw, and the fruit ones are lush

No of course it won't kill me! But I find it disgusting, and offensive. Halal meat is disgraceful. I don't eat meat, and certainly don't approve of halal and the way it's crept into English supermarkets just because we pander to Muslims for fear of offending them. I would have thought it was quite obvious why vegetarians would find the something boasting halal friendly weird. But then again I kind of was expecting a defensive reply because of peoples fear of appearing racist

You know what I find disgusting and offensive -

People with an agenda who use a valid point of discussion to promote a vaguely related ideology. Putting an acceptable face on an unnacceptable view.

1/10. Please come back as someone else and try again. You need to be a little more subtle. You have the classic opening gambit of a WUM. A not very good one either.

You've got to string people along for a lot longer than this to be sucessful.

I see you have no such fears. Do you want a medal, or something?

Here's an idea, if you don't like how any sweets market themselves, just don't buy them. That's the best way of registering your feelings on the subject.

Halal (or kosher) simply means "permitted" and applies to more than just food.

In the case of haribo swetes it simply means that it contains no animal derived gelatin.

Nothing more sinister than that, you won't catch teh moozlim from eating them.

The market for Halal products is big, so it would be silly not to mention that it's compliant. It's like making a product that's kosher or suitable for vegetarians and then not mentioning it, and missing out on the business.
