Am I the only one who thought Matt was awful in the duet?

Firstly, I do like Matt, I think he's a good vocalist and was great in his first song but I thought his duet with Rihanna was TERRIBLE. People kept making fun of Rihanna because she's such a weak vocalist throughout the week but Matt completely butchered that song in the beginning. Thankfully when Rihanna came out it all got better and Matt managed to deliver his one line better but that entire first verse was unforgivable, in my humble opinion.

Rebecca started off her song WAY better than Matt did yet she's getting all the flack because she got outsung by one of the best vocalists of our generation and got a little starstruck in the middle.

I thought he was very weak too but supposed it was down to the flu they reported on in last week's show.

I thought he was weak too. I actually thought Rihanna was better than him and that is saying something. Hopefully it doesn't screw up his chances though and he performs well tonight.

Yeah I definitely think it was down to his flu. He's usually a lot better than that, so hopefully tonight we'll see him in good health. I'd much prefer to see him win than 1D.

It pains me to say it but it was probably the best duet of the night since neither were particularly bad.

Rebecca's... well, it's well documented on here what people think of that.

Cher's - will.i.am ruined it. Cher actually looked really good in comparison.

One Direction's - Dad and kids at a wedding.

...so it wasn't hard to be the best duet. However, Matt appeared way too nervous during his solo part and during the duet he looked like he was some seedy old man dancing around an attractive woman in a club.

It wasn't his best performance but when you counter in how nervous he must've been (like the others were) and his tonsillitis (poor bloke was coughing when he wasn't singing) and his consistent brilliance throughout the weeks, and I think I can let him off! I also don't think that song was the best one to show off his vocals.

Matt started of weak but really hit his stride when Rihanna came out.

Was it vocally excellent? No. Matt has delivered better performances over the weeks. However it was decent, especially towards the end when he was hitting those high notes.

The important thing is that Matt didn't let Rihanna consume him, which is what Rebecca did with Christina.

He held his own. Thier chemistry was incredible, yet bringing a degree of vulnerability to the performance.

It just worked.

He definitely hit some bum notes but he didn't let it phase him and overall I enjoyed the performance more than all the others, he & Rhianna gelled better than the other acts.

I have no idea what everyone else is hearing, but I thought it was absolutely painful to listen to.

OP you're right, although it wasn't completely awful as a performance, it was terrible vocally, but Rihanna tried to make the whole thing look better and was actually far superior vocally. A lot seem to be trying to divert the attention away from it with the Xtina duet, which again, as you said, when Rebecca sang, she was perfectly fine for the first part, but literally fluffed up by being starstruck more than anything when they were supposed to duet. And yet, so did Matt. He seemed scared when Rihanna used him like a toy. Personally though, neither were the worst... some others seemed to be poor vocally and in terms of performance from both performer and contestant...

Have you ever had tonsillitis? It does your throat in and takes a LONG time to fully get over! I've never tried singing with tonisillitis but I can assure you I'd sound like someone being strangled, so I'm not surprised he doesn't sound perfect!

I used to get it regularly when I was younger and I can vouch for anyone who has had it that it's more than a sore throat! It's like having full blow flue, a sore throat, painful ears, often a tickly cough and generally feeling completely useless.

However, I've never known it take two or three weeks to recover! I worked in a call centre when I got it once and I was back at work after 4 days, talking for 8 hours a day. Then again, I don't chain smoke like Matt apparently does.

What did Matt sound like with his band? Was he this high? His throat just might not be able to handle the constant straining.

I normally love Matts vocals but he was weak and it was like he was a kid having a lap dance, I agree! Too focused on her dress not the song

I have tonisillitis at the moment...

To be fair to me.. I fast forward most of the x-factor so I didn't see the part where they made excuses for his bad performance due to tonisillitis.

However, knowing that he had tonisillitis doesn't make the performance any less painful to my ears.

His vocal was a bit dodgy and yeah I think it's down to his illness but there is no way on earth his voice is gonna be improved by tonight, if anything after singing last night it's gonna be worse sadly.

I hope he can still make the final two though, not too fussed about him winning.

I try to remain reasonnably confident he'll win, but i'm gutted he has to deliver such sub-par performances.
I don't know how long he's been smoking but i can tell that when you smoke, any nose / throat / chest illness drags on and on and takes ages to go away, and the nasty part is it's probably the worst moment for him to be forced to cut down.

I'm one of Matts biggest fans, have supported him (and Rebecca) from the start, but he certainly wasnt at his best. Mind you even at his worst he's pretty good.

Ironically I thought Cher was the best of the night and I havent been able to stand her performances before.

His voice was out a few times - but he's not well

The performance itself was electric and I can't stop watching it!

Matt's and Rhianna's was the best duet of the night by far.

Xtina tried her darnest to drown out Rebecca unfortunately.
