Pamela's a bit like a carthorse at times.

But can they hold a conversation on the workings of the Id, the Superego and envy of the great long dangling thing? I think not

Criticising someone's dancing is one thing, but comparing her to an "expired horse" that should be put down is just spiteful. I hope people don't make comments like that about you when you're that age.

Blame Craig for being such a stickler for the rules, not Pam.

I honestly think Atrem should have changed the choreography for the Rumba after Kara's foot came off the floor in her VW. That annoys me a little.”

Just as I would have been annoyed if a last-minute change had lead to Kara not feeling like she knew the steps well enough as in the week of the jive.

That's true. It is frustrating when someone doesn't achieve a perfect score because of something as silly as a lift, albeit an accidental one.

Be fair - he was proposing boiling her down for glue, not having her put down.

Anyway, people make comments like that about you all the time when you get past 50. Mainly your family.

Yes, that was strange. I always thought Craig put "performance" at the top of his list, and was more forgiving of minor errors in technique. He obviously wasn't "blown away" by the routine, or he might have made allowances for the foot fault.
By the way, I'm not blaming Pamela..to her credit she has never been one to beg for high marks, or question the judges. I just honestly didn't think either of her maximums were deserved in comparison to others we have seen. They weren't unforgettable, and didn't have the "wow" factor..but that's all a matter of personal opinion of couse.

Yes, but presumably they do it in a good-humoured way.

Depends how much they think you're going to leave them in the will.

No, that's fair enough I wasn't talking about you when I said that. Criticising someone's dancing is par for the course on here, but personal remarks are a bit below the belt.

No.

I just meant ignoring the foot off the floor. Rules are the rules.

I agree. Aliona very nearly fell foul of the same problem in their Tango too. Why take that risk?

No very nearly about it. I'm not sure if it's clear to see on youtube, but it was clear to me when I played it back on sky plus. And even clearer in slow mo.

Gavin and Katya also had two moments in their samba which could clearly be classed as a lift. I don't care about Kara's and Matt's because they were not intended as lifts, they were just mistakes, but in Gavin's dance the moves are intended as lifts in that there is no way to perform them where at least one foot stays on the floor.

Weren't those assisted jumps which apparently are in the rules.

To the person who asked if Pamela's two top scores were deserved: Yes to the VW, no to the QS.

I think Pam made the observation herself that she looks like Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler. Whenever she's in hold, her shoulders are up by her ears, but no-one comments on that. And she's had so much work done on her face that when she's trying to look elegant in the slow dances she looks like she's petrified.

No to both.
She's a good dancer but 10s should be saved for the most outstanding and only Kara can seriously be called that.

Pamela's 10s have undervalued the score. Her wobbles and clumsiness can't have gone unnoticed?

I actually think Pamela's face looks great and she isn't (unlike others, including those in this show) dishonest about the work she has had done. Similarly, although I find it odd that her hunched shoulders are never commented on/scored down in the perfect marks she has received, I am willing to believe that they may result from skeletal problems referable to her age and so, like Ricky Whittles' bandy legged gate last year, don't attract the ire of the judges. There can be no such excuse for her heavy footedness however, amply demonstrated in Charlston and QS and not marked down.

I think it was mentioned at the outset and Pamela wrote some time ago in The Grauniad that she suffered polio as a child and had ballet lessons to help strengthen her legs. So perhaps that has something to do with her shoulders.

I must say that I saw this thread before I watched Pam's QS and I couldn't see stompiness or heavy footedness all the way through. I thought it was beautiful and the only thing that really was a mess was the awful pink blomange skirt which did no favours to Pam or the dance.

I thought the way she moved from being in hold to the bit of tap dancing was lovely and for me she is fantastic at ballroom. But some of the simpering really annoys me and is all a bit OTT.

I didn't notice wobbles in the VW. I also think up until the last weekend she showed a lot more heart in her performances than Kara did in her technically excellent but not perfect ones.
