Gethin's jive. Not technically brilliant but such a fun routine.

That's an understatement Not many people mention it, but I think it was incredibly overmarked. Being "fun" is fine, but a dance with bad technique should never be given great marks.

Patsy's Viennese Waltz - full of emotion.

Matt and Aliona's AS. I loved it. It was emotionally and technically good. I know it's not to everyone's taste though.

Many of Kara' and Artems dances were under rated; she provided beauty and emotional connection beyond anything ever seen, but due to the odd wobble or strong heel lead didn't get the perfect 40.

Still, no matter, these underscored dances always go down in history more thanthe 40 ones.

Kara and Artem's Charleston definitely. It was brilliant -- don't know what the judges were watching...

Jill's Paso. Still a reference dance for me, with lots of technically demanding stuff for the female celeb instead of walking around and making angry faces.

I agree about Kara's Charleston too. I thought it was lacking a bit of oomph or "performance" (see Jill's Jive), but everything else was spot-on.

Matt and Aliona's rumba - it was so beautiful for a male rumba and he did really well at a difficult dance.

Another vote for Kara and Artem's Charleston here - especially in comparison to what other Charleston's scored in the series!

And barely recognisable as a VW - which not one judge mentioned. Lovely dance but if anything over-marked IMO.

Kara and Artem's Charleston. I could not understand the 'give it more wellie' comment. When I was watching it I was thinking this has got to get at least 2 10s. I've watched it again and again since, and still enjoy it.

I agree, and I'd add that his Tango should have got full marks imo.

I think Kara's Quickstep was underrated - didn't like it at the time, but have watched it since and it was good. Still not a fan of her Charleston (the music let her down), but it deserved a higher score than it got.

I don't think there are any dances by anyone other than the finalists that spring to mind as memorable, so I don't think there are any others which I would call underrated from this series....

Absolutely! And also his samba. Craig gave it a 9 at Blackpool and said in the final it was much better - so gave it a 9 again

I thought there was far too much hip action. It was like he was playing with a huge hula hoop!

All in the eye of the beholder of course. But I was talking about Craig's opinion rather than ours. If he gave it 9 at Blackpool (which he did) and said in the final that it was much better than Blackpool (which he did) then logically he should have given it a higher mark. Therefore it was underrated - by Craig.

I cant say any were underrated, because people judge things their own way.

The only routine where I spontaneously burst into a round of applause at the end (for the choreography) was Aliona's American Smooth.

I thought it was just beautiful and Matt captured the feel of the dance. It wasn't perfect - I thought Aliona could have done better than the running spin, and Matt's hands could have been better, but for me, it was the outstanding routine of the series.

Agree about M&A's Samba and American Smooth comments. I would also add their Tango, if for no other reason than it was the only dance where the performers seemed to be saying a giant "**** you" to the judges through their dance. Great stuff.

Kara's Foxtrot comes to mind, as does Matt's Argentine Tango.

I liked Matt's Tango, but the lift seemed a bit unnecessary (added to which, I don't think that the normal Tango allows lifts, so Craig, at least, couldn't give it a ten without looking a bit of a hypocrite regarding Kara's semi-final dances. I could be wrong though).

As for his marks in the final, there is a lot of room in a Craig 9, because it means 'almost perfect - but not quite'. Matt's Samba was sharper and better in every way from the Blackpool version, but if Craig saw any flaws in the routine at all then, by his own standards, he wouldn't be able to give it a 10. Call it the difference between 9.1 and 9.9 (we all know by now that Craig always rounds down, right?).

Matts AS wowed me - a bit of finessing and it could have been one of the best routines ever.

Could never understand the judges reaction to this. Also loved Matts Foxtrot

Ah yes, the Argentine Tango. My absolute favourite dance of the whole series - and yes I loved the music too. Would love to see it again, honed, and without the wardrobe malfunction.

About half way through, Aliona's heel got caught in her lacey over-dress, and she couldn't get it free, meaning that the second half of the dance was her hopping about like a flamingo, and Matt stuck there in deep-panic unable to do anything while she was flapping about him. They managed to get through it to do the final lift though, but really the whole routine was ruined by that point!
