Well I guess we knew the short VT clips were being edited to give us certain impressions, but he claims its all deliberatly manipulated.

agree with him, they do play the crafty sales technique.

Is this really a big shocker for anyone here? I feel bad for the people who do have partners, though, or want to keep their private lives out of it. I guess it's part of the price of being on tv, but it's usually very uncomfortable to watch.

I do understand what he's saying but we all know the power of editing in order to create a storyline for televison as he would too before going in to the show.

I do remember though on his first show VT where he said 'something like' how he was looking forward to being close to pretty/or beautiful woman (as in Natalie) even though he was going out with the Hollyoakes girl at the time.

This comes up so many times.

"Television is all smoke and mirrors" and any network can project any perception they choose, simply by ommissions and inclusions.
As Claudia said when one contestant complained about their training VT on her show last year.

"It's what we do."

makes you wonder if the bosses have something up their sleeve.

Actually he denied saying this a few days ago on Twitter - said he was talking about reality TV in general and wasn't dissing Strictly.

I'm not sure where the sarcasm relates to, probably me, but Ricky said that seriously with a naughty smile expression to go with it, so, sometimes I don't think he necessarily (or other celebs) help themselves at times. He could have not said it at all (with having a gf). I'm sure the clip is on Youtube somewhere.

we don't know whether he was saying it as a jester comment.

I didn't even think they were having a relationship though what his saying about a tv programme be it bbc or itv or ch4,5 it doesn't surprise me

Of course it's manipulated. I've been saying that for years

It's been pretty obvious to me this series but then maybe I'm just cynical.

You mean the tabloids start with empty pages? And the TV companies employ publicity departments to fill them?

Look, you don't seriously believe that Prince William is really engaged to Kate do you? It was all to generate more sales in clothing stores in New York.

"Tabloids regenerate US economy, Britain loses only fanciable bachelor" etc

"Strictly finals threatened by national disaster - 6 inches of snow in Cairngorms threatens whole national Grid. Will they perform?"

(sorry, can't find the Lazy Journos thread - probably on page 333)

Who knew?

And of course, he'd be saying the exact same thing had he actually won, wouldn't he?

Hmmm...it's all in quotes though and seems quite specific to his time on SCD. Normally that means it's more likely the person has said what's been written.

If so I don't know what he means about the producers not expecting him to get to the final though, he was always a shoe in from the moment he was announced as participating.

I partly agree with what he says tbh.

Of course it's all manipulated. You have to be pretty naive going into a reality show thinking it won't be.

No it really doesn't, it should do but sadly in today's red top tabloid market it means jack.

The Daily Star is hardly a bastion for free thinking rebellion either. If he'd wanted to be serious about TV editing manipulating the viewing public he should have done his interview with the Guardian's Media editor or in the Independent's Entertainment section as both are much closer to truthful journalism.

As for anyone being surprised by this, I'd wonder what planet they were living on to be honest.l

Stange. He says it's "all fixed", "totally rigged", but what he says they actually do is neither of those things.

Sounds a bit like someone being a poor loser to me.

The thought never even crossed my mind Don't remember even the slightest rumour about them either Wasn't it all Ali/Brian last year

Does Ricky think he's telling us something most people don't know All of these things are manipulated to attempt to get the result they want/the person they want out. It doesn't always work, I don't honestly think Chris Holilns was the 'chosen one', but often it does. Mind you, SCD is like a toddler attempting manipultion when compared to Simon Cowell and XF.
