Hi everyone,

A couple weeks ago I survived a Vindaloo & now decided to up it a mark, so I have just ordered a Bangalore Phal from my local Indian. If you don't hear from me again then it has been a true pleasure

If it's like most curry houses in this country, it will taste mainly of chilli powder and little else, I wouldn't bother.

What melodramatic nonsense. Come back to us after you've washed it down with a bottle of prune juice.

I've had Phal- not for the light-hearted

Once you've done that see if you can get some Pepper Soup from a Nigerian restaurant, iirc it's often hotter than hell itself

I hope you've popped the toilet roll in the freezer.

I agee. I once had a properly made vindaloo at a really good restaurant and it wasn't that hot, but by God it was good. The idea is to get heat but taste all the ingredients.

Exactly, there is a world of difference. Trouble is, most of the curry houses design their menus for 10 pinters.

Lol, I've seen Phal on an Indian restaurant menu before. It even carried a warning "not suitable for children or the elderly"

They had Phal on Man versus Food once. OK, granted the whole dish is bogus from the start, but the way they made it was to use as many different kinds of chili as possible, not just powder. So they started off with the big mild green ones and included about 10 different fresh and dried kinds all the way up to habaneros.

Can someone explain the appeal of eating something so hot that it doesn't taste of anything?

How strong is a Phall on the spice chain.

Curry - pah.
Madras - Nice.
Vindaloo - Can do them easy these days.
Phaal - Where will this take me?

Endorphines are released in the brain giving your synapsosis an orgasmic experiance.

I've had a Wetherspoons phaal when they used to do them. Not the same as a restaurant one though.

Saying that, I doubt there is a standard recipe.

Is that why you eat food?

tosh, it may release endorphins, but they are nothing akin to an orgasmic experience!!

To be fair, if you only ate food for nutritional value then food could be pretty boring.

So where's the OP? Maybe he's exploded and you'll all feel really bad for making jokes about prune juice and frozen toilet rolls.

Ultimately, that's why I think everybody eats food.

Rubbish. People eat food because they like the taste of it.
