Having a Humax 9200 and a Toppy 5800 both of which transfer more quickly to USB with the aerial out (also in Games Mode which is not as quick as removing the aerial), I wondered if it's possible to speed up transfers on the hdr by relieving the cpu load. (Currently clearing space for Xmas). There's no games mode on a hdr and disconnecting the lnb feeds is a bit impractical

I recorded a 15 min clip of BBC-HD in non freesat to avoid not being able to copy multiple times and tried the following

Code:
Time	x Real Time	Time For 5Hrs
BBC-HD	00:02:44	5.49	00:54:40
BBC1	00:02:44	5.49	00:54:40
BBC4 (offline)	00:02:10	6.92	00:43:20
Teletext	00:02:29	6.04	00:49:40
Freesat Info	00:02:29	6.04	00:49:40
Radio 4	00:03:08	4.79	01:02:40
NonFreeesatEncrypted	00:02:21	6.38	00:47:00
Replaying SD Recording	00:02:10	6.92	00:43:20
Tuning to a currently not available channel in Freesat mode gave the fastest results, (sadly the increase in speed is not dramatic)

Anyone got any other ideas ?

I usually do the "BBC4 (offline)" option if possible.

The other day, I was recording 2 HD shows, watching a 3rd HD from disk and doing a transfer, and it was at least 3 times slower than normal!

No ideas, but that's very interesting. I'll try the 'BBC4' option in future, though I've a feelling mine runs slower than anything you've listed (not measured it). Maybe my (cheap) USB flash drive is the limiting factor though.....

Allmost certainly, the drive being written to is a WD 1TB sata drive formatted EXT3

Not necessarily. This issue was raised nearly two years ago and the difference between the HDR and a laptop showed to be quite significant.

When the box has finished recording I will transfer the test file to a usb stick under the BBC4 off air scenario.

The transfer was the slowest recorded (DaneElec 8GB stick)

To Usb Stick (BBC4 off line ) Transfer Time 00:02:55 Times Real Time 5.14 Time for 5hrs 00:58:20
