Digital-Cameras.com - Beware!

On the 2nd of December I odered an expensive camera from http://www.digital-cameras.com/ and recieved confirmation. The same day, I ordered a camera bag from a company trading on Amazon, and and SD card from Amazon itself. The bag arrived the next day. I'm still waiting for the card, as of 14th December. But the real problem is from Digital-Cameras.com, also trading as Camerabox.

After a series of e-mails in which they kept rolling back my delivery date, and a broken guarantee to deliver on Friday 10th of December, I e-mailed to cancel on the same day. It was then that I discovered this is a company great at taking customers money - MasterCard told me I had already been billed - but poor at giving it back. It was not until the 13th of December that I received e-mail from Gary Smart, their on-line manager, apologising for the problems and telling me that he would cancel the order and issue a refund. Unfortunately, the very next day, the 14th of December, I received e-mail telling me that the company had shipped my goods!

I've since been on to MasterCard, who tell me that the company has done nothing wrong, and that as far as they are concerned, I still owe them the money! Yes, i can claim a refund and they will chase it up, but as far as I am led to believe, Digital-Cameras.com still get to keep my money in their account until such a time as they see fit to refund it, and I am expected to pay out for goods I cancelled and intend to refuse delivery of, should the company actually do what they say.

I think it is appalling that Digital-Cameras.com behave like this, and MasterCard offer no protection.

Hate to say it but: You should have ordered from a well know/ reputable company.

I know it doesnt help, but a very quick google would have rang alram bells before you placed the order:

http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews6675.html (1st result)

Hope you get it sorted some how.

Looking at the positive reviews on such sites - it looks like the company itself posted them.

It happens fairly frequently- is funny when the other forum members work it out and turn on them!

If the order was for over £100 paid for with a credit card (not debit card), then the card company does protect you from a purchase not being delivered and you can claim from either of them (to all intents and purposes, the card company bought the item valued at £100+ for you, and they are responsible to ensure you receive it). Under £100 and you are on your own as far as the card company is concerned, and you'll have to go down other routes.
