Just a mini-rant - All I hear is the same songs every time I switch on music channels or walk into shops! We had VH1 on just now and they were playing the same songs as the other day! It's mad how they play the same old stuff every year. I'm a bit bored of 'em and it's not even Christmas yet!

Phew, glad to get that off my chest Anyone else feel the same about Christmas songs?

On the whole, I've avoided them with the exception of going shopping where you can clearly see the frustration on the staff's faces!

I have to say, i enjoy listening to them as it reminds me of christmas day when I was younger. But yeah, some are waaay over played.
Particularly Last Christmas, and All I Want is You which seem to be on non-stop.

Shame you don't hear the one by the Darkness anymore. I never liked it at first, but a few years on and it sounds great.

I've heard The Darkness' song on VH1 once or twice but they seem to love playing Slade, Wizzard, Mariah Carey, Wham and several others on a loop. They get a bit repetitive after a while. The Mariah Carey one is especially annoying.

I'll tell you one Christmas tune that will NOT be played....
"Another Rock N Roll Christmas" (Gary Glitter) !
What a great song that was.

Shops usually have a playlist on rotation when it's not Christmas and that'll get annoying enough, but at least it's a variety of stuff. However, at Christmas they'll have the same hour or so playlist on loop. After 8 hours working I could imagine that gets very annoying.

Well it's probably harder if you're working as it's harder to escape it than if you're just a customer.

I'm sick of "Do They Know It's Christmas"
Slade "Merry Christmas"
All I Want for Christmas Is You

It's very annoying, a year is too short when they play them over and over every year.

What's the Christmas hat like? Is it a Santa hat? In my university library they have a plant on the front desk and on top of it they put a black "Bah Humbug" hat. It's quite funny actually Might take a photo of it tomorrow.

That's when they should start playing them. It's when they start playing them in October/November that it gets ridiculous. But one thing I sometimes notice regarding Christmas songs is that some people (not on here but in real life) look shocked if you tell them you don't like a song and some seem to believe that you should like a song if it's a Christmas one. It kinda annoys me.

There are some that are ridiculously overplayed. If I hear Slade or Wham one more time I'll smash my radio!

That said, at Christmastime it does give you the opportunity to hear some of your favourites: my two Xmas guilty pleasures are Little Drummer Boy by David Bowie and Bing Crosby and.. uhh.. A Spaceman Came Travelling by Chris de Burgh (best thing he's ever recorded?)

I nearly threw something at the telly last time I heard Slade so you're not alone there!

there are so many good ones but all the channels seem to want to play are Slade, Wizzard, Westlife and the X Factor!

I haven't seen 2000 miles once!

Now this I agree with. And the worst thing is that someone keeps putting it on with all the songs. I just have to leave the room in case one of the rubbish ones comes on.

best to watch when they play their Q anthems to stay clear of christmas songs as I found out yesterday when they played the new song by the killers and it started with a clip of it's a wonderful life and then some sort of christmassy jingling through it..I was quick to jump for the remote..fastest I've moved this year
