after nearly 28 yrs,
its time for another corrie legend to be recognised.

i put michael in a similar bracked to steve mcfadden,
consistantly good over the years so taken for granted.

michael has been brilliant in the 50th eps.

Am I the only one who thinks doing a very well paid job with loads of perks that you love doesn't deserve an MBE?

Sad that there are doctors, surgeons, inspiring teachers, soldiers out there who have far more difficult and important roles to play who go unrecognised in favour of tv personalities.

consistently dull maybe, even when he was trying to be 'passionate' with Molly it was like watching paint dry

Not just you.

Actually some stars have turned down MBE's and what not because they don't agree with it.

Ditto. I think he is consistent, but consistently void of passion. He has the same look on his face all the time, whether he is pleading with Sally, telling her he loves her, or shouting. And those Molly scenes.....oh dear God. I'm just glad I had the clicker in my hand

I agree. I love my soap stars as much as the next person but it does make the honour a bit of a mockery. Even Eileen Derbyshire said recently when she was told that she had been selected for the MBE she felt like a fraud in comparison to all the wonderful doctors, nurses, soldiers etc.

But... If the Queen comes a'knocking, then you just don't say no.

Yeah, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with people accepting them...of course they will.

I agree with this comment too, far too many soap actors get MBEs for playing a role, and some of them do it quite badly.

Michael Winner said; "An OBE is what you get if you clean the toilets well at King's Cross station"

So yes, give Michael an MBE, as thats below OBE.

Michael Winner cleaning toilets? Was he doing community service, or taking part in yet another Reality TV show about celebritiys cleaning toilets

Haha, I would probably actually watch that :P

He declined an OBE for that reason. He should just be grateful people haven't forgotten him completely

Funny you should say that Smokey, on Thursday 9pm ITV have a Celebrity Grimefighters on.

From their website

"Actor Neil Morrissey discovers the revolting conditions beneath the capital's streets as he goes underground to clear the sewers, while socialite Tamara Beckwith confronts cockroaches in Dagenham and TV chef Gino D'Acampo discovers the dark side of the catering business when he joins restaurant inspectors in Wolverhampton. Plus Nancy Dell'Olio, TV presenter Andrew Castle and etiquette teacher Liz Brewer work at clearing the contents of some of the UK's most disgusting houses"

Should be fun..lol

Michael Le Vell has given Corrie a lot of years, but I don't think he's earned an honour as yet. However, Jean Alexander, Thelma Barlow and Helen Worth most certainly do.

Which actors and actresses in Coronation Street have been awarded the MBE?
Only 15 Corrie regulars past and present have been honoured. It has to be said, half of them are for their charity work either partly or completely.

1965 - Violet Carson OBE (Ena Sharples)
1977 - Doris Speed OBE (Annie Walker)
1983 - Jack Howarth MBE (Albert Tatlock)
1996 - Julie Goodyear MBE (Bet Lynch)
1999 - Betty Driver MBE (Betty Turpin) and Bryan Mosley OBE (Alf Roberts)
2000 - Elizabeth Dawn MBE (Vera Duckworth) and Bill Kenwright CBE (Gordon Clegg)
2001 - William Roache MBE (Ken Barlow)
2003 - Roy Hudd OBE (Archie Shuttleworth)
2006 - Johnny Briggs MBE (Mike Baldwin) and Roy Barraclough MBE (Alec Gilroy)
2010 - Eileen Derbyshire MBE (Emily Bishop), Barbara Knox MBE (Rita Sullivan) and Anne Reid MBE (Valerie Barlow)

I'm another that thinks it's slightly obscene to see entertainers on award lists when there are much worthier and deserving professionals ignored (although it's a different matter where entertainers routinely make use of their high profiles for charity purposes), but given some of the other names already on that list it seems wrong not to see Bill Tarmey (Jack Duckworth) on there.

Michael Le Vell, though? Not even close.

Mind you, I don't think Roy Hudd and Bill Kenright got theirs for services to Coronation Street (not that the poster was saying they did).

Personally, I am amazed that someone as blank and wooden as Kevin Webster has managed to last so long.

He's not so much a 'legend' as an 'OMG are you STILL in it?' kind of actor/character!

Sally Dynevor has completely shown him up this week, he needs her a lot more than she needs him!
