Storing itunes on external drive

Can anyone help? My PC crashed but I managed to copy my itunes from the PC to an external drive. I now have a laptop which is connected to the external drive but when I open my itunes library none of the items on the external drive can be seen.

I can play them via windows explorer (and they then appear in my library) but is there a way of pointing my library at the new storage space so that my tunes (which are mainly downloaded podcasts) appear in my library?

Have you tried adding folder, (like you would if just adding a new CD or track)and then add the whole hard drive.
For when you want to add more music you will have to tell iTunes that you want to add your music to the external driv wand not the standad C drive..
