The Ratings Thread (Part 15)

You can read about it here: http://www.itv.com/presscentre/thebi...2/default.html
I think it's basically 'Celebrity Fit Club' (if you remember that), but with members of the public. |

I did chuckle when I looked on the ITV Press Centre for The Biggest Loser. They have the genre listed as Daytime. So even ITV are admitting its a daytime show chucked into primetime.

Sky have made their first original commission for Sky Atlantic with David Attenborough following up his Flying Monsters show on Sky 3D this Christmas with a new documentary on penguins that will air on Sky 3D and in 2D on Atlantic.
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/broadcas...uins-film.html Not ratings related but the Sky Atlantic logo has also surfaced if anyone wants to take a look, http://tv.sky.com/skyatlantic |

Hasn't The Biggest Loser already flopped in ITV primetime once before? With Kate Garraway.

New BBC Saturday night show - Don't Scare the Hare:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/medi...scare-the-hare Also, re: Britain's Got Talent judges. Obviously Cowell doesn't want to replace himself with someone who might be better, but it wouldn't have been a bad idea to put someone on the panel who, if received well, could then move up to The X Factor should Simon want to leave it to concentrate on the US version. |

Latest Digiguide update w/c 10 Jan has Taggart Tuesdays at 9pm, Kidnap and Ransom Thursday at 9pm.
The Biggest Loser Monday at 9, Midsummer Wednesday at 8, Comedy Rocks Friday at 9pm. Are ITV trying to do something about that Tuesday night flop zone by diluting Mondays or will they swap around ? |

Looking on DigiGuide it should be a clean sweep of wins for BBC One at 9pm that week.

Not that I'm surprised by the scheduling. There seems to be no love at ITV for Taggart as it's been erratically scheduled for the last few years, with one episode airing on a particular day and then no further episode for months etc. Quote:

ITV must have high hopes for The Biggest Loser, presumably it goes out in primetime in other territories ? I read this bit : "They are only allowed books and music as entertainment and there is no television, newspapers or indeed any contact without the outside world. At the end of the gruelling seven weeks the remaining contestants are weighed and the finalists chosen." And thought it sounded like Big Brother for fat people. |

Launching a new drama series on Thursdays too..hmm. The only night I can see performing well there is Wednesday. I can see Monday, Tuesday & Friday all under 4m. |

I wonder what the decision making processes involve at the BBC meetings where entertainment acquisition/commission is concerned. I just have this image of Alan Partridge type characters pitching endless ridiculous sounding formats. I suppose Total Wipeout has been a hit, but i dont know why the Beeb just dont go the whole hog and recommission Its a Knockout rather than just skirting around the edges. The backbone of what we have now (SCD aside) on Saturdays are just schedules that people watch almost by default when there is nothing better elsewhere. Both Casualty and Lottery are tired(and endless). Casualty timeshifts well but i dont buy that this is a positve thing-I tape lots of stuff but I dont watch half of it, and its a step towards losing touch. Someone needs to be bold and creative, but instead we hear noises about giant hares! Edit; Ofcourse the hare will now go on to be a huge hit, be poached(or should that be stewed?) by ITV for his own show, and eventually replace Amanda Holden on BGT. |

Isn't that because they weren't produced as a series as such, just one-offs and inserted in the schedule when they became available - a bit like Midsummer.
"Genesis" 8 January 2008 "Judgement Day" 15 January 2008 "Island" 27 February 2008 "Trust" 21 April 2008 "A Study in Murder" 1 May 2008 "Point of Light" 5 June 2008 All those episodes had been filmed before "Genesis" went on air but apart from the first couple of episodes, they didn't air them weekly in a fixed slot. I know the episodes are standalone but 95% of programmes still get aired weekly but for some reason ITV generally haven't done that with Taggart in the last few years. I can understand why Midsomer Murders doesn't air its series weekly because on Wednesday's there's football airing which they have to schedule around but that excuse can't be used for Taggart. |

I see Harry Hill return on the 8th, is that a new episode, or a best of?

And that's a lazy Saturday repeat on 8th Jan, showing Ad of the Year again at 9.15pm. |

at least there is a new Primeval episode, but yeah I see what you mean, its not a great line up, would hope it would be a little better.
I see the BBC are going to repeat Come Fly With Me after Casualty, thats just going to be confusing, people wont know which is the new ep, and which is the repeat |

I think I'm the only one with hope for The Biggest Loser, if it gets some good ads over Christmas, it should do well enough for recommission.

Despite EastEnders 'BadPatch' it's still pulling in good ratings

EastEnders' 'bad patch' is actually nothing of the sort. It's only because Coronation Street has added so much in terms of viewing figures because of the anniversary week that EastEnders figures look 'low' but they aren't - it's still performing extremely well.
If we want to look at a bad patch let's turn to ITV, who's Tuesday nights appalling ratings (without a 'big gun' propping it up) continue. I'll still argue they should create a soap hour at 8pm (moving an episode of Emmerdale and Coronation Street) to prop the night up. |

I see the BBC are promoting their big weekend of shows as "Winners Weekend". Good to see them making a big deal out of what will be a very good weekend of shows. Quote:
