Sky advertises MORE than the BBC do! It could be argued their profits allow MORE advertising as the License fee is much more thinly stretched. Yes?

Have to ask because of the headlines today and the fact they've been reported to Ofcom, what did ITV News at Ten get last night?

I do agree with you - can't remember when I last saw a billboard or magazine ad for a BBC programme but surely the only reason Sky can advertise more is because they are continually receiving subscription fees. On the other hand for Sky, if they want to get more subscriptions surely they are required to advertise to show what is on offer.

Thanks Mike. It is disappointing to see a low figure but what can you do when it's on FIVER. I imagine they would be happy to run out the entire series seeing as they won't have anything better to show. Hopefully when the Ozzy soaps return more people will notice it's there.

Excellent for EastEnders, Holby City and Silent Witness last night. I expected Above Suspicion to fall slightly but stay above 5m, so it's a bit of a surprise to see it under 5m. The story isn't as good this year though - I still think the 2009 two parter was the best and I think ITV should schedule two parters on Sunday/Monday, opposed to Monday/Tuesday. Sunday 9pm is a good slot and Monday 9pm would get a good lead in from Coronation Street. The lead in isn't there on Tuesday.

No major scheduling information from BBC1 or ITV1 for week beginning 15th January, except ITV1 will be screening an FA Cup Replay on Wednesday 19th January from 20:00 to 22:00.

And that was when Above Suspicion got its highest ratings I believe. That was where I thought that BBC1 should have had a few of their dramas like Waking The Dead until The X Factor on Sundays dominated the slot.

I think the BBC have actually been very canny in going back and laying claim to the Monday and Tuesday slot with their strongest bankers at the beginning of this year though. It kills two birds with one stone: they can compete should ITV air any big thrillers on a Monday, and it also solves an under-performing drama slot on Tuesdays.

In the midst of 'ITV Flopzone', we don't often recognise how much BBC drama has suffered on Tuesdays in the past two years as well, despite the Holby lead-in. Check out this list of dramas - all of them range from moderate to complete flop:

Survivors
Paradox
All the Small Things
Mistresses

They have at least solved that problem for the next 10 weeks.

And it all leaves ITV in a very difficult spot. They'd ideally like not to compete with the BBC big guns on Mondays and Tuesdays, but also have no space on Sunday, too much disruption on Wednesday, and like to stick to entertainment on Friday. That basically leaves them with one spot, Thursdays where Kidnap and Ransom will air.

I thought Luther and the Deep both averaged around 5m+?
didn't think Mistresses was on Tuesday? Granted Survivors and Paradox did badly, Never heard of the other show.

I was surprised Luther didn't perform a bit better. But I'm glad they haven't given up on it. Most people who watched it seemed to like it.

(In Digital Spy's top 20 shows of 2010 it managed a very respectable #18. #1 was The Walking Dead by the way, coming soon to Channel 5.)

Argh. Nuuuuurse!

Mind you the previous year CBB was only getting 2 million and I think a lot of the recovery last year was a sympathy vote and even then, not a big enough one to save the show.
However, Channel 4 do seem to be milking certain shows to death now like DOND and CDWM, which are middle aged now in terms of how long they've been on. Surely they can think of other shows for this slot as DOND shouldn't have to be on almost all the year round 6 days a week and CDWM is just a way of filling a schedule.
Channel 4 needs a reasonably intelligent chat show for 5pm again rotated with DOND, as both are capable of 2-3 million often ABC1 viewers. I know the Madeleys aren't interested now, but surely someone with a middlebrow following like Fern Britton could do a show like this.

All the small things was good I thought - It had a bit of everything in the storylines and the cast were good!

Hope Springs was another one but I think it possibly aired on Sundays at 8pm. It averaged at 3.78m. Also another good programme with a well known cast in my opinion.

yep I agree.I love shameless but even the thought of a 22 ep run seems scary I do hope the ratings wont suffer because the loss of certain cast members really hit the show hard.

Luther did OK, but dropped steeply from its premiere. Regarding Mistresses, it was Series 2 that aired on Tuesdays in 2009; I think the last series aired elsewhere.

Overall, it's not that they were all disasters, but none of them qualify as a 'hit', and barring Luther, they're all now dead. I consider that surprising given that ITV's opposition on the night has been frequently dire, and the slot gets BBC One's best weekday lead-in from Holby.

I suspect the BBC are surprised by it too, as they've persistently used the slot to launch new shows, keeping the returning hits to other weeknights.

Really good points there sn, possibly they put some things in that slot that they think are niche or not as good as hoped knowing it's unlikely they'll be beaten?

Anything remotely near a million in this slot is fantastic for Five, so something to smile about.

Any ratings for th 5pm news or Monkey Life please. Be interesting to see how well these have held up with no soap support, and if the 5pm news can mainatin its pre-Christmas momentum

Also anything for the 6pm Cowboy Builders repeat? Better than what Studio Five normally gets at 6.25pm?

Very poor for the CSI repeat at 9pm though. Not anywhere near a million and outrated by the shows before and after

How did The Chase do for Episode 2? Also, great for Stargazing.

CSI: NY was bizarrely low at 9pm because for the second repeat at 10pm it rallied by around 200k to achieve a decent 5.1% share. 5.1% at 9pm would have easily taken it over 1m.

I guess it must have been dented by Silent Witness and Above Suspicion.

Brand new NCIS should get things back on track tonight at 9pm. It does have tough competition though, so I can only see it finishing fourth in its slot ahead of Channel 4.

The Chase - 2.18m (13.2%) ... it came 2nd in its slot to C4's Come Dine with Me (2.70m), though it did beat The Weakest Link (2.28m) head to head between 5.15-6pm.

Deal or No Deal - 2.10m (16.1%) ... it won its slot.

Eggheads - 2.33m (11.0%)
Great British Railway Journeys - 1.86m (8.2%)
