My first thought on Sky Atlantic having seen the first week's schedule (minus daytime) is... what's the point in launching this in the form of a traditional TV channel?
The schedule is made up of a handful of (admittedly high quality) shows repeated almost endlessly. It's almost a +2 of itself.

What's more, with it featuring mostly HBO stuff, the shows don't really lend themselves to a commercial TV channel due to the awkward episode lengths. Viewers over here are used to things starting on the hour most of the time, which will be a rarity on Atlantic.
I know it's not designed to be a ratings winner, but I'm struggling to see its purpose at the moment. The fact they are having to use content from Sky Movies to fill slots also speaks volumes.
Why couldn't they have just stuck Boardwalk Empire on Sky1, put the HBO back catalogue up on Sky Anytime and be done with it?
Just seems a waste of resources to me this channel when what little content it has at launch could be housed elsewhere, particularly in the form of on demand, where frankly it would be better suited.
Sky1 is falling by the wayside whilst all this is going on, and poor old Bravo got axed. I do hope it's worth it...
