Lol there is a concrete slab full of irony there -all it needs is Chris Evans to present Fridays Daybreak and the cycle will be complete.
Presumably Christine gets Fridays off as well - for contractual reasons they only ever appear together. Then Adrian will have Wednesdays off for footie. Then he'll be too busy to do Daybreak at all. Why does he need Fridays off - the Sunday show is not live.

my biggest problem with The Biggest Loser is that it's sponsored by Subway

were the irony detectors off that day at ITV Towers

Does anybody know if the ratings for Daybreak are any higher when it is presented by Kate Garraway and Dan Lobb? I can't be the only person who only watches it when it's those two present and switch off for Chiles and Bleakley

I think they must be slightly higher - if we forget about xmas/new year though!

I mean i certainly watch it a lot more when it is Kate and Dan than Christine and Adrain - I just think the chemistry is better between the two and they are funnier! They also used to be part of the GMTV team which for me, does make me more inclined to watch as well i suppose!

BARB officials w/e 2 Jan:

I think Sky Sports 1 may have set some records for its best ever week:

Overall share of viewing - 2.6% (it's normally in the range 1.0% to 1.3%)

Reach - 8,620,000

A number of reasons:

- 6 live PL games
- 4th Ashes Test
- World Darts

BARB officials w/e 2 Jan:

ITV1 had its lowest ever audience share in history - 13.2%

(And by some margin - previous all time low was 13.9% in the summer).

Two further stats - not quite records but very nearly:

Five audience share 3.7% - 2nd lowest since 1998 (lowest since 1998 was 3.5% in January 2010).

(Five had lower audiences in its first 18 months after its launch in 1997).

Multichannel audience share 47.2% - 3rd highest in history (highest were a 47.7% and a 47.3% in the summer).

Wow, thats a real shocker. I can only imagine daytime is falling to bits (well, we know Daybreak certainly was) as the primetime ratings that get analysed on this thread seemed relatively normal...

There is also, I suppose, the effect of HD being counted as a different channel - that must be worth a percent or two itself, no?

EDIT: ITV1 HD adds 0.7%, so thats still probably a record.

Surely ITV's ''lowest audience share in history'' was during the 1979 strike ?

Piers Morgan's guests for his first week on CNN have been confirmed,

Monday: Oprah
Tuesday: Howard Stern
Wednesay: Condoleezza Rice
Thursday: Ricky Gervais
Friday: George Clooney

Guests lined up for the coming weeks include:
Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Kid Rock, Rod Stewart, Kim and Kourtney Kardashian, Donald and Melania Trump

It's a reasonably strong line up but they aren't exactly huge exclusives, these guests have given lots of interviews before. Nonetheless it will be fascinating to see how the show performs, despite Piers suggesting (presumably playfully!) on Twitter that it will get hundreds of millions of viewers, anything over 500,000 would be sustainable and ensure that they at least hold on to Larry Kings old viewers. Obviously they will have for better but I am not getting the sense that this show will be the game changer that CNN so desperately need.

There are also reports today that CNN are about to axe one of the presenters of Parker Spitzer, the show they only launched a few months ago (albeit under a different boss). While CNN are reportedly impressed by Elliot Spitzer, Kathleen Parker is unlikely to last the week. Former Fox News host ED Hill has been touted as a possible replacement. Parker Spitzer, or whatever it is called by this time next week, will serve as Piers Morgan Tonight's lead in.

On a similar note CNN US has had an extensive graphics relaunch today which will hopefully make the presentation less stale and dull.

I see New Year Live got an official 9.37m for BBC1 (except Scotland) - and zero comment on here today despite it being one of the biggest audiences of the year and outrating one ep of EE that week and probably a couple or more Corries...

I can't recall what the cut-off for the Top 20 of 2010 is - I think it misses out, but can someone confirm?

Also, a great timeshift for Zen ep 1 - up from 5.1m overnight to 6.24m official! It's one thing for Dr Who, CFWM or UD to get big timeshifts of over a million, but for a fairly uninspiringly-rated new detective drama to do it is pretty good.

Christmas 2010 has certainly been the Christmas of timeshifting!

Also of note - Top Gear Middle East got a whopping 3m official for the day-after repeat on BBC2!

A 10.7m combined rating - impressive for a show supposedly past-it...

A couple of changes at the top for the digital channels lately. Angela Jain is to leave E4. She commissioned Misfits, Dead Set, The Inbetweeners and Hollyoaks Later as well as overseeing the complete re-casting of Skins series 3 and the acquisition of Glee. She hasn't actually been running E4 for the past year (on maternity leave) but she won't be coming back. She's apparently one of the contenders for the job running ITV's multi-channels when Zai Bennett leaves.

The fact that E4 won't have its own controller is a bad sign, IMO (especially as it will share a "channel manager" with More4). A few years ago they were really pushing original UK scripted shows but they seem to have cooled off and I worry for Skins this year. I've watched since the start but I'm not really sure I can be bothered with a 3rd set of characters.

The other big change is that Claudia Rosencrantz is leaving what remains of Living TV Group. She commissioned a string of returning reality series for the channel such as Britain's Next Top Model, Four Weddings and lured Katie Price away from ITV2. But under the new management she didn't feel there was an equivalent role for her.

Of course, Living is going the opposite way to E4 and it's getting more money and had already made its first drama commission.

Sky certainly seem to be investing in non-sport content now which is long overdue. And the BBC always have money. But I'd like to see ITV renew their focus on the digital channels. There was some talk a while back from the new management of launching a stand alone brand which I think would be great - if done with the appropriate investment. The digital channels are effectively their future. Looking to the US, the big conglomerates now make more from their digital offerings than their broadcast networks.

It would have come 19th by my reckoning.

Fair point.

Although I guess if it wasn't on air there would be no audience at all so the concept of audience share wouldn't be applicable.
